The journey took about 10 hours, but the train was very comfortable, and we travelled along the coast and also high up into the ...

Outside the lodge, at the foot of the glacier, was a lake, with beautiful blue water. Some people actually put their feet in to test the water. I think it was pretty cold.

I don't think this was the first time I saw a glacier, but I cannot remember where else I saw it. The Svartisen glacier was nice, but it did not have as much ice as I imagined. The guide said it was normal. Some years it had more, some less.

As this large rock gets closer I notice a white patch half way up the edge of it and simply take it as being a bit of leftover snow.

Soon an announcement is made over the ships speaker system but as I am right by the funnel I cannot hear what was ...

We crossed the Arctic Circle this morning at 7.10 . It is marked by a globe located on a a small island and an announcement over the ship's tannoy.
The day has gone quite slowly since, the major excitement being that the diligent cabin maids removed our empty water bottles which we use to smuggle water into the restaurant in order to avoid paying nearly £2.50 for a new bottle with every meal. Its very sad but Alison was so affronted by this treatment that she asked ...
