Today we are taking 42 bags of olive/leaves mix to the processor to make some olive oil. The family usually uses the first batch harvested for its own consumption. This is the organic batch. Today we starting harvesting. The day of picking the olive off the ground are over. Today they use nets spread out over the area and the use a olive tree beater. It's a long shaft with a rotating head that has several rubber sticks that beat the tree branches and knock the olive off. What I thought was a peaceful harvest, is anything but. You need a generator to power the beaters and they hit the branches, constantly making noise and shredding the tree as olives are thrown ...

Today I made it out to the farm, where I will spend the next bit of time, being a farmhand. The owner is Kostos and his wife will be the main ones hosting.
