Heraklion Crete

... of thousands of years old coins. Investment banker is my guess. Iraklion is a dirty busy little port city. But don't let her looks fool you. There's lots to do, see and appreciate. It's been around since the Neolithic age, some 10,000 years. A layer cake of time and surprise. We enjoy a stone-oven baked pizza watching the traffic and people. Motor bikes blur by, seldom a helmet but often a passenger on board. Buses jammed with people. Lives ...

... only reachable via a single tie-in point from the water, and decades-old abandoned mining facilities. These facilities seemed to be arranged to drop the mined goods straight into ship hulls and now are just hanging skeletons reaching out over the waves. Duty Free had an excellent selection of European wines, at very low prices in €. Low on ...

We boarded our cruise vessel in Kusadasi and said goodbye to Turkey and our wonderful guide, Fundah. Our ship can take 900 people but there are only 419 on board which is good. It is more comfortable and our cabin larger than I imagined. We sailed to Patmos yesterday and spent the afternoon there. I went on an excursion to the monastery of St John the Evangelist and saw where he is supposed to have written the book of Revelation. There was even a niche in the ...

Greece....who knew there was such a market for fur

A travel blog entry by jimbeaux on Sep 29, 2015

We arrived in Crete, quite early in the morning. I tried to sleep in, but the gentle rolling of the ship was enough to wake me. Looking out our window, We saw the port (even though we are on the starboard – or "right" side of the ship).

HOT. HUMID. Dark clouds collecting off in the distance seem menacing as they ever so slowly drift across the black and blue sky picking up moisture along the way. We have ...
