Having shopped around the local tour guide offices, I decided to hire a car and driver to take me from Udaipur to my next stop - Jodhpur. For 30 pounds, it sounded a bit steep, but the driver explained that he would be stopping at points of interest along the way, and that Jodhpur is in fact quite a long way from Udaipur. Given my previous experiences with pubilc transport, I didn't need much convincing, and so I arranged to be picked up the ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India owain... if that's true but I do know that it makes this city beautiful to look at. A huge fort that looks like it was built into a mountain towers above the city. The fort itself is beautiful as well.
Our rickshaw driver seems to be in a particular hurry and was driving so fast in the alleyways that he managed to startle a cow, it actually lifted its leg out of the way for the rickshaw. There's something I've never seen before!
The rickshaw could ...
... daggers. I thank the lord that the elderly ladies of Vienna never discovered such a device. The guard finally stopped following me as I approached the fifth and final room, releasing me to the care of the second guard, who was snoring peacefully in the middle of the floor. This final space was dedicated to natural history - consisting pretty much of two stuffed and slowly modeling tigers locked in a death embrace (marked "fighting tigers") and ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India hammitt... charged ... Sigh. Same amount to return. Mehrangarh ticket includes the audio guide which we find to be the best audio guide among the sights. We took our time (3hr) to finish the fort and had lunch at the café at the exit - just ok for a quick lunch. Jodpur was in the former region of the Marwar (I was confused with Udaipur Mewar) and the seat of power for the Rajput Rathore clan. And Mehrangarh was probably ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India mikela...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India tm-360deg... I thought I'd hate it...but I love how the car horns here mean something totally different than in Canada. While in Canada they are used when you are angry, in danger or something like that, here they are used as a declaration of existence! "Hello! I'm here! Don't hit me!" Trucks all over have signs painted on them saying "Horn please!". Two girls from Germany explained driving in India to me best...basically you only watch in front of you ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India maedchen... sack has .....a how do you say...naga..." it didn't matter I quickly saw for myself....the burlap sack fell to the ground and a big ass Cobra raised up out of it...visibly ****** off (I have seen cobras before, hell I even wore a baby one in Benares....but this was one grandaddy of a COBRA)...the men began to shout exictedly....then out of the other bag darted a mongoose... This is the thing about India, just when you think that certain stories about India are just ...
Osiyan, India w4nderer... men hold hands in public (as a couple would do) but they are infact just friends - bizarre! Life in India is a constant struggle, a battle against everyone else, the fight for survival. It is so different to the cultural norms of the UK that it becomes agitating, infuriating and sometimes damn confusing! For example I was 'queing' to get a train ticket yesterday and there ...
