... me,and then past me...That was my first "underwater smile".

Light and sound show at the Cellular Jail
If you are an Indian Freedom Struggle fan, you dont want to miss the cellular jail. They more than tortured freedom fighters there.Beat them.Flogged them.Underfed them.Made them perform tasks given to buffalos.Mocked them.Forcefed them.Killed them. The light and sound show has goes through these misdoings in chronological order, with light and sound ...
Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India greenphoenix... cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, was a group of statues of some of the more famous freedom fighters. One struck our attention as his name was Roy. Yes, Roy is a not uncommon name in India. The heat and the humidity were taking its toll on us so we prepared for our return to the town. To our surprise we heard the voice of the young Indian Tut-Tut driver that had brought us here from town. He was asking if we were ready to return to town. We again agreed on the price and started ...
Port Blair, India danharriet... a bolj klavrno. Doooooolge bele pescene plaze s turkizno vodo. Ljudje na otoku so se povsem "nepokvarjeni" do turistov, tako da so se otroci za ...
Port Blair, India m_in_t_travels... away lay the dark and depressing corridors of the Cellular Jail. But today, the deathly calm that prevails in the cemetery is also what, ironically, hangs all over the island and its haunted ruins. After having developed and transformed Ross Island to a comfortable, self-sufficient township, the Britishers were shaken, literally, out of their adopted home by a devastating earthquake in 1941. Subsequently, during the second world war, the island ...
Port Blair, India p.rajesh... after Saddle Peak near Diglipur in the north) in the Andaman & Nicobar group. Its proximity and the peaceful locale made it an obvious choice to be the summer residence of the Chief Commissioner during the Raj. While the ferry and the subsequent ride from Bamboo Flats is the easiest and fastest way to reach the summit, it can also be reached in a 55km drive from Port Blair. One of the more underused accommodation options by visitors to Port Blair is ...
Port Blair, India p.rajesh... as a mix of stunned and animated crowd well up on the pier, eager to get aboard. These fast ships are a world apart from the noisy, patchy ferry that had done us service to Viper Island. We have opted for the normal bunk class which turn out to be a really decent, comfortable affair. But the best travellers are the ones who get out there where the action is - and, thus, we snake our way through a narrow corridor and up the staircase and onto the deck ...
Port Blair, India p.rajesh... the sky are one of the most beautiful sights one could hope to see. And islands in the sun are ever more so! After over an hour of visual feasting on fluffy clouds, the rising sun and snatches of the emerald sea below, the first glimpse of a tiny island is indescribable. That, we guess, must be Sentinel Island - the first inhabited landmass that one gets to see after leaving the mainland; ironically, out of bounds to outsiders given the animosity of the ...
Port Blair, India p.rajesh... holiday was now coming to an end, which is not a good feeling. We had to fly from the Andamans back to Kolkata, wait for 5 hours and then take an 18 hour train ride to Delhi for one night, before we flew back to London. This train ride we decided to ride 2AC which is about as fancy as it gets, and we did not regret it. It seems that the more you pay, the less snorers are about. I hate to say it but it seems that snoring is directly related to wealth....sorry to all you snorers out there.
Port Blair, India markandali... locally as beach number 7. It was voted by Time Magazine as the best beach in Asia. It has white sand and the water is crystal clear. It was nice to chill out there for the day. The place was pretty deserted and was just stunning. We rented mopeds. I got some old school moped - iid place it around at least 20 years old - and it just about made the 20 minute journey to beach number 7. Nights and days in Pristine were great. We met a whole host of ...
Port Blair, India nddorgan... businessman who approached with the usual "What is your profession ?". I made the mistake of mentioning that I had worked in the gas industry which made his eyes light up. So did he, what a coincidence ! He went on at great length about his organisation's major achievements, how they were ahead of the competition and how many kilometres more pipeline they had than everyone else. He even went into great detail about the different polymers that could be extracted from Indian gas ...
