On the morning I checked out of Dhara Dhevi I felt sad to leave this luxurious hotel but eager to start my volunteering program helping elephants. I made the most of my last complementary buffet breakfast, then packed and checked out.

Once we'd finished cooking we went back to the hostel and waited to be picked up for our first overnight train to Bangkok. The overnight train was really cool. ... the foreign guests are mostly French, so was happy to gain our help. We struggled to help her correct the grammar without changing her personal style. In one place she described a heavy fog in the valley and we suggested she should use 'mist' instead. "Fog is what we have in England. Mist is lighter and more romantic."
