Okay, random and exceptionally early entry, but here we go -

So university decided to give me three nice holidays to work with, Christmas, Spring and Summer. Christmas is Barbados, Summer is the Eurotrip, but what to do with the Spring Break?

After looking at several options like much cheaper getaways to Europe, I decided I wanted to actually do something with this vacation, something that could help people. Heading down to ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom kilgiraffe... a crapload of work. And I'm also trying to find one of those "job" things so I can get some extra £ for travelling purposes. So no real time for immediate fun, grrr. But I'm hoping at some point I'll be able to do a bit of mountaineering, and also planning on heading down to Glasgow and Edinburgh sometime. There's a couple other Travelpodians scattered around somewhere too, but I think it's ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom kilgiraffeWell I have finally begun my journey!!! It seemed like it would never actually happen, but as I boarded that plane reality began to sink in....As we all know, i have no idea when Ill be home, where ill go next, what Ill see or who Ill be spending time with....which makes it so much more exciting for me. Now i have only been here for half a day and have yet to settle, but once that ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom courtneynewTomorrow I'm catching the a 2pm flight out to Heathrow, a couple of hours of transit and off to Istanbul...arriving just after 11pm. There's no public transport other than taxis and its probably gonna be expensive to Sultanahmet where I'm staying. But the flight's cheap so can't complain really.

For the past few days I've been packing and repacking, readjusting my inventory each time, trying to strike a balance between travelling light and having the ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom desequerahI made it back to Stonehaven today. Amazingly, the sun was out in full force, a complete contrast from yesterday. I walked along the North Sea for a bit, enjoying a Cornish pasty, and then made the roughly three-mile hike up to Dunnottar Castle, also overlooking the sea. The hike was amazing, but largely uneventful. The photos say more than I could hope to.

I leave for the U.S. tomorrow morning around 8:30 a.m ...
Stonehaven, Scotland, United Kingdom joneswesl... example of a vice business operating inside what used to be a cathedral. It's really unusual.

I returned to the house, and Heather and Hannah (Heather's friend) explained to me that a typical Scottish Saturday involves going to the pub and socializing, watching sports, etc. We went to a pub and spent the afternoon doing The Times crossword puzzle. Not ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom joneswesl... in the 13th century, a very nice graveyard, lots of great pictures here. I wanted to go to a whisky distillery, so we stopped at Glenfiddich, but didn't take the tour. The smell was grand! We stopped in Dufftown and I bought a few more small bottles of various single malts. We stopped at Balvenie Castle, across the street from Glenlivit distillery. Something was fermenting there. We drove on to ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom mctubbs... post some pics when I get a chance. Hmmmm... so much to tell and my coins are running out. We drove down to Kilmore on Thursday and had a fantastic lunch at the Lobster Pot. Only we didn't stop there and went on to the pub with Mark & Thomas' family. We made new friends at the pub. hahaha! We weren't feeling so well when we got up on Friday. No more coins... until next time!
Aberdeen, United Kingdom missfissy... Two men speaking in chasste hindi, amidst various other languages. The train arrives, and we find seats, amidst the rays of the sun. Get off and catch a bus. s speaks of sweets, kit sees a turkish sweet shop and we promptly alight. s chooses the sweets while the turkish women ga-ga over the babies. Initial plans were to get a curry in bangla town, but by now everyone's a bit tired and jaded from the constant sunshine, and so kit decides to cook dinner and relax. Back ...
Aberdeen, United Kingdom martess... the liquid culled from the mash called the wort. The wort is placed in large (!) vats called wash tons and yeast is added--the mixture (called the wash) ferments for a couple of days until the yeast runs out of food. At this point, the mixture is more like beer than whiskey. The wash is pumped into stills where the actual distillation process takes place. The wash is boiled in the stills. Since alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature ...
