Abenteuer ist relativ.

1. Kommt alles anders und 2. als man denkt!

... Amis sind ja so furchtbar! Offensichtlichere Floskeln gibs ja wohl GAR NICHT! Aber ich bin ja nicht unhöflich: "Where are you from?" - "US. Nice Shirt."

... town there were no tourists, no people as it was off season. We felt like we had whole town only for us...and the beaches! <br>There are also interesting places to see nearby, including some of the highest sand dunes in Europe, fisherman's ethnographic museum, gallery-museum of amber, neo-Gothic church (built in 1888). <br><br><br>

... dark at night when walking back, but didnt feel unsafe to me. From the hotel to old town takes around 15 minutes on foot. Most of the way is a shopping street. The old town it self is small and not very exciting, but has some nice restaurants and bars. I had dinner somewhere outside in the city centre, which was very cheap. This being a Sunday evening, it was pretty quiet. <br>

Nida, a small resort town

... As I walk into the courtyard, I see the restaurant in the back. There are several restaurants which appear to merge. I am apparently sitting in the are of one restaurant but am able to order from the menu of the steak house. Steak was OK. Service was terrible. I think the steak had been sitting out for awhile. In the US, I would send it back but too difficult with the waiter&#8217;s limited English.

Beach weather at last

... very sore. Walking is painful with every step. I can't figure out anything in particular that caused it. I walk with difficulty to dinner, a great Armenian restaurant. Their translations for food are off. I order lamb shank (thinking Osso Bucco) and it turns out to be rack of lamb. Still works for me. I do several infused vodka shots and some brandy to hopefully ease my pain for sleeping. I skip the bars and opt for bed. It still after midnight. Everything is later out here.

Curonian Spit - Lithuania

... for amber. Yes, Karen had to humour Brad on many occasions while we pulled in to another beautiful sandy beach as 'it looks to have potential'. It's more the fun of it than anything else (the main finds are in autumn the day after big storms whip up the sea) but Brad was happy with his little nugget-ets (which Karen still thinks is just rock). Just like our prowess at fishing, we unfortunately still had to buy the good stuff though!

... but just over the dunes was the beach, the sea, and the obligatory sunset. From here we went quite early. Getting up at six thirty ment getting going a bit after eight, after washing in the sea, having breakfast and breaking up the tent, putting on suncream, etc. Mara wanted a coffee in the last Latvian place before Lithuania, so we visited Rucava, a tiny tiny village. While I was convincing the shop ...

... of the border, as the souther half of the spit is Russian. While a dumb tourist accidentally crossing an international boundary would probably arouse chuckles and redirecting in Canada, I would not expect the same of Russian border guards, and was quite happy to meet a woman mushrooming (everyone on their brother is out mushrooming on the spit at the moment) who directed me back to town. My second day in Nida, I rented ...

Curonian Split

... off to Nida. Along both sides of the whole road was think forest so all you could see were trees and little dolls hanging from the roof of the bus windshield bobbing about. We walked through Nida and along a bit of the coast before cutting into the woods to get to the top of the dunes. It seemed to have warmed right up and layers were actually coming off which this morning seemed like an impossible thought. We carried on through the woods ...
