Historical Traveler Reviews Simon Hotel Seville

Okay

from none00

My room was clean, but the bathroom was too small. However it was nice to stay in a converted mansion; I liked how they preserved the upstairs living room. You could imagine how they might have lived there before.

Laundry was just a 2-minute walk down the street; 1 load completely done for you for 6 euros. Location was convenient & close to lots of sites.

Basic but very nice

Very nice quaint hotel in the best location in the city. One block to Cathedral and Palace. Room was suffient and had good AC and bathroom was clean and basic. Would definately stay there again.

Charming Spanish Mansion

from anonymous

We stayed 2 nights at this beautiful renovated palace hotel in the end of May 2004. we had booked the room 2 months in advanced using recommendations from this site. The hotel feels like a charming Spanish Mansion complete with rugs, original paintings, antique furniture and a small courtyard in the center of the hotel. The staff was friendly and very helpful, they spoke perfect english which made it easy to communicate. The rooms are a bit small but very clean and beautifully decorated with hand painted tiles on the walls and stained glass window, more than adequate for 2 people. We had a complete bathroom with a small tub, shower, sink, toilet and bidet. The water pressure is good and stayed hot. The only downsides were that the walls are quite thin, so you can hear other bathrooms and air conditioners, and the closet was quite small but had enough space to hang a few items. The Hotel has an elevator and a dining room for breakfast. The location is excellent in the middle of downtown and just a 2 minute walk to the Cathedral and once again just around the corner from a Starbucks and a wonderful bakery called Filella. We would definitely stay here again.

Simple Simon

from anonymous

My husband and I stayed at Simon in September 2003 for two nights. The location was superb however our room was small, sparsely furnished and the bathroom was dark and a bit funky. The public areas with their tacky displays were neat and gave the hotel a cerain flair. The building itself is lovely.

It was a cost-conscious decision to stay here given that we splurged on our accommodations in Barcelona and Mallorca so we really can't complain too much. All said, Seville has so much flavour, Simon remains a pleasant memory.

Charming But Tired

from anonymous

My friends and I stayed at the Simon in November. It is indeed an old palace turned hotel, but it saw it's glory days long, long ago. The location is excellent, the rooms are adequate, if quite faded. The pictures on their website make it seem much more glamorous than it really is, but I would stay there again, if only for the central location.

Quite satisfied. Location can't be beat.

Perfectly adequate accommodations, one block from the cathedral, at a grat price. Rooms were small but clean. Bathroom clean and modern.

Public areas of hotel are decorated with antiques. For reservations, hotel staff seems to respond better to fax than e-mail. There's a terrific coffee shop/deli/pastry shop/restaurant on the corner. I was a bit concerned before we arrived about the one-star status, but now suspect that it's due to factors like no parking and no TV in rooms (features we didn't need). Our rooms were on the street side, which was somewhat noisy late at night, so you might want to request rooms away from the street. We would stay here again. Definitely recommended.

Nice hotel but . . .

from anonymous

We liked the hotel very much. Nice, small, clean rooms--like staying in someone's house. But when we charged the room, they converted the Euros into dollars at a higher conversion rate than VISA and we lost about $20. I now know that I could have refused to sign the bill and asked them to charge it in Euros. Be aware of this scam!

Great little hotel, tons of character

from anonymous

My husband and I were looking for a fun, affordable, little hotel with lots of charm and got just that with Hotel Simon. Great location--safe, convienent, and quiet. Our room was small and could have used some sprucing up but overall we had a great experience and would highly recommend this hotel. The price was right too--we paid 63 Euros a night for a double room with air conditioning!

Enjoyed the Hotel Simon

from anonymous

We enjoyed Hotel Simon because of its convenient location, quiet room, and good value. The room was clean, and the surrounding neighborhood offered a number of resaurants on quiet streets. I intend to recommend this hotel to any friends that plan to visit Seville.

Lovely hotel and great value

from anonymous

I stayed here in October 2002, we had a lovely room, the bathroom was large but fairly basic. We paid the extra 15 euros to have a seating area, I would recommend this as you get a much larger room. It is not a luxurious hotel but it does have character (with lots of antiques) and is very peaceful and central. With regards to the breakfast comments, I would like to point out that the vast majority of Spanish folk do not have a breakfast (just lots of coffee). I would assume that the reason is mainly due to the fact that they have a large lunch usually lasting around 2-3 hours long so they don't want to be too full! They most certainly do not have egg's, bacon ect, the hotels will try to copy what we are used to but it really is silly to expect the same quality as in the U.S, U.K ect. If like me you like something to eat in the morning go to a local (coffee) bar where you will not only find a much better atmosphere but also much better food!

On Friday we caught the train to Sevilla and booked into the Hotel Simon (virtually under the cathedral) for the night. Once in the historic centre of the city we were entranced. The narrow streets, wee cafes and bars, and then the Cathedral. It is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and is full of priceless treasures in the form of gold, …

Tapas Hopping on Skinny Streets

Hello, Blogonauts.

Greetings from Seville! Our stately hotel lies in the heart of the city's oldest quarter, where cobblestone streets are often so narrow and windy they feel like the end of a twisting funnel. But these skinny streets are brimming with lovely tiled architecture, upscale shops, outdoor cafes, and tapas bars.

Hello, Blogonauts!

Friday we ogled the unique architecture that help define Andalusian life. Particularly in Seville there exists a virtual kaleidoscope of ceramic tiles. Creators of these colorful showpieces improvised on the Islamic decorative themes left by centuries of Moorish rule. They incorporated the geometric patterns that can be …
