In Search of a Fortress: I decided to attend a Mozart Concert and a dinner in the fortress for Friday evening. I gave myself lots of time to get to the Old Town, so that I could wander and explore my way to either walk up or take the Funicular (cable car). I did both actually - walked most of the way up in the afternoon, stopping ...

With destination and purpose yesterday, I walked down near Mirabell Palace where I knew I could find a good little tour company for getting the lay of the land in Salzburg and surrounds. To my delight, I happened upon the weekly Farmers' Market enroute, which was an amazing experience / such a feast for the senses. ... courtyards, so you are always walking from busy to quiet, to busy again. There is a whole section of the old town built by an archbishop-prince from Italy, and there are squares and fountains galore in that section. There are bells, music in public spaces both planned and spontaneous, sculptures, and gardens. There are horse-drawn carriages, and people in lederhosen and dirndls. Tall houses and buildings are ...

... matter) don’t actually like the Hollywood version
that we all grew up with, because it actually strays far from the true Von
    Trapp story.

We got to go to many of the places from the film, although some we only drove
past as they don’t allow tourists in (such as the Nonnberg Abbey and the "Von Trapp" house
used for external shots which is now a music university). We also got to drive
out to the beautiful lake and mountain districts ...
