Departure Day - Part 2: Out of Eden

... but eventually went to see Bruce Willis in 'Surrogates', a weird but quite cool sci-fi which is worth a look if you have no better offers.

Came out of the film around 11, considered going for a drink but decided that there would be plenty of time for that, and without paying through the nose either. Read for a bit and turned out the light. Found myself restless, not surprising really but a better nights sleep would have been handy; ho-hum.

Meeting the Postman & my family!

... up the bikes, we all headed off towards Scarborough to pop in and see Nathan aka the "Postman" & "Dot". Nathan rode from Sydney to London on a moped (named Dot) earlier this year and is a really lovely one off character. We all turned up & his Father supplied tea & biscuits for us all. Thanks Nathan & good luck with the book.

... sheets. Let's hope my 3 other room mates don't mind my snoring! At least I got there early and bagged the bottom bunk!

Up early to get some breakfast and to try to work out where to head to tomorrow. Nothing booked yet...let's see what happens. Left the LR tonight with a strange rattle, not sure what it is, sounds serious, lets hope I can work it out tomorrow and it doesn't cost too much :-(

Lonesome George's insomnia

... I somewhat resemble a tortoise, carrying my home, rucksack-shaped on my back I thought that it was a somewhat apropriate title, lets just hope I have a little more luck than he in certain departments.

So my bags are packed, and that damn Greenday Jetplane song won't stop whirling around in my mind. Although no doubt the easiest song to learn on the guitar my retarded fingers haven't quite been whipped into shape. The idea is that after three months, on a ...

From Coventry to Newcastle

... then headed up "The Shambles" road and The little shambles road and had a look at the street market. I got a new 4 pound black case for the phone as I managed to crack the last one...I seem to go through them quite quickly, ah well at least the phone is protected.
We walked back towards the church to try and get a 2pm slot to climb up the spire. On the way we stopped at a fudge place where they made fudge in front of you, we got a ...

This is Norman architecture.

... church was built and they had his bones for 300 years before a beautiful chapel was built to house his mortal remains. For Bede, life was brief but held the knowledge of the mercy of Christ. He liked the English and wrote the first history of the English speaking people. I love his prayers but he is not in that black stone box; he flew to the light of his Lord long before the first stone was laid for Durham’s great Cathedral.

We got to Durham at 2 pm ...

New home close upon Tyne

... downtown one day and explored. England has put some money into Newcastle in recent years and they have a new music hall, modern bridges, and a nice walking area in the center. Of course I forgot my camera. It is a town also known for its party atmosphere- one coastal suburb had nightclubs on every corner- but being in 'hang out with family mode' I didn't see too much of that, so next visit. I extended my stay an extra week and ...

Out of Scotland Already?!

... through Edinburgh just appeals to that side of me that demands that certain stereotypes be met.

After the parade, we headed over to the only tourist attraction we hadn't seen in Edinburgh in our previous visits: Holyroodhouse Palace. In general, I haven't been too impressed with royal residences. Yes, they are beautifully decorated, and they have art treasures that most museums in the world would kill for. But, all of them have a really weird quality to them. I ...
