Mambo! I made it to Nairobi safe and sound. It was another good flight with KLM; lots of TV and movies and no Swahili studies... It took a while, a very long while, to get through immigration last night. I landed at 8:30 and it was 10:30 by the time I got through. There were only 15 people in front of me - that is how slow the line moved. Some pretty interesting activities taking place in the holding area and I wasn't sure what to make of it all. There were a couple of groups that bribed thei...
Nairobi, Kenya andreainafrica Jambo from Kenya!
So Denise and I made it here safely and everything went very smoothly on the way over -- flights were on time and no major issues. Although the Amsterdam airport had possibly the most uncomftorable seats in the entire world, but some fab Burberry purses for sale. We arrived in Nairobi late last night and were met by David, a worker from VICDA, who was to take us to our hotel for the evening. There was a little miscommunication though as he started to drive us to our ...
After a 7 1/2 hour flight from Amsterdam we arrived in Nairobi. As we had hoped there was a man in the waiting area holding a cardboard sign with our names on it. Turns out there was another Canadian arriving on the same flight and she hopped into the cab with us for the 20 minute drive to the Silver Springs Hotel. How appropriate that Trish should be from Calgary when were staying at the Silver Springs. We arrived in the dark so didn't really see anything of the city. We spent a couple of ho...

Hey hey there from Nairobi…
….well after bragging about my super organizational skills and being sat by the departure gate…I some how became engrossed in the joys of face book and missed not one but all the calls for boarding my flight… it wasn't until i listened to the sensible voice in my head and check the screens again did realize… id missed the final call and my flight was in fact closing….oh lord..so me and all my luggage had to make a sharp ex...
After a long and bumpy flight and not much sleep we arrived in Nairobi at 4am. The airport was eerily quiet as well as being dark and dinghy. We had organised an airport transfer from the airport to our hotel so we werent too bothered however much to our amusement it did not turn up. After half hour of being pestered by dodgy looking taxi drivers we made a call through to our hotel who apologised for the mix up and advised us to jump in a cab - great, just what we want in Nairobi in the pitch...
Nairobi, Kenya longwaydownFlying is always the easy bit, sitting on a plane for however long it takes you to get away from your real life, scheduling in as many inplane movies as your sleep dreprived mind can handle it doesn't matter what language you speak, to the air-attendants a nod is a nod, and a coke is always Coca-Cola no matter what the Generation Next ads lip-sync about. As a Chinese-Australian coming from a Western Caucasian country, the feature that hit me first was that almost everyone is of Negroid descen...
Nairobi, Kenya si_orlorI am now back in Nairobi after the first 7 days in Kenya, staying again at the Silver Springs Hotel - I was so excited that I'd be sleeping in a bed again! I was really lucky when I arrived as 3 other people on my trip were on the same plane but didn't get their luggage until Wednesday. So far I have seen about 30 elephants so those that know about my love of elephants will know that I'm really over the moon about that. I started in Nairobi and had 1 night in the hotel (the last bit of luxury...
Nairobi, Kenya wendy_hickson... was our first experience of safaris made it the highlight of my trip so far, and the perfect antidote to the chaos of the cities.

Random observations, learning points and top tips
1. Corruption may be a cliche but it's true. We got talking to a Nairobi businessman and his wife on the snorkling trip. They'd flown out to the cost for the week to celebrate his winning a big building contract with the council - thanks to an 'arrangement ...
Nairobi, Kenya jojoportobello... measles, and diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis. Judging by the big crowd of waiting mothers and the speed with which Cana’s nurses treated everyone, this clinic seems to have worked out a very effective program. I was really impressed at how much Cana has changed since I was there 2 years ago, and I just wish we’d had more time to spend there!

We wrapped things up with both the clinics on Thursday, since Orielle and I had both come down with colds (to be ...
