Clive the Security Guard!
To arrive at Ocho Rios, one must penetrate the mountains that seperate the north and south of the island by dense jungle. Soon after arriving in Ocho Rios, we put our backpacks on and trotted off to find a cheap hotel. A peace-core worker we met in Kingston drew a little map for us so we could find the non touristy area. We werent walking for …

Anyways, that is something new for me and definitely different, but that misunderstanding didn't at all change the way I feel about the wonderful group and wonderful congregation. I am so happy to have made some connections and friends should I decide to return and serve in Jamaica.

Moxon's Beach club
Moxon's beach club is a private resort club that cascades over a cliff to the crystal clear waters of the ocean below. The beach club is tucked away in an obscure corner without any indication of how beautiful and luxurious it really is. To stay in the resort, rooms average anywhere between $150-300 Canadian per night, but as Beach club visitors, we only had to purchase something ...

A word to the wise, while most expenses in Jamaica are tourist traps, shelling out money to rent water shoes is absolutely nessisary. The rocks are slimy and slippery and at times you are waist deep in pools of water while climbing. just make sure that you pay in Jamaican money (JBM) or expect to be taken advantage of.

This day I found my second favourite country after India :-)
We had a simple lunch at a place with a beautiful view, organic and vegetarian, Ever doesn't eat meat, that's part of Rastafari. I'm learning.
When getting back to town he drove around and showed me some local restaurants to eat. I later went for dinner at a small place, three chairs, one menu, it was great!

Historical Traveler Reviews Silver Seas Resort Hotel Ocho Rios
Quaint
I love it, but it has changed. It was a pretty busy resort when I started going there about 1980. Clean, nothing fancy, no tv or phones then. But that's ok. Friendly staff, although a little slow but no problem, soon come. Have stayed there about 8 or 9 times. The location is great and for the money, you can go other places, try other restaurants and still not break the bank.
Careful
Being a Jamaican, I can put up with a lot from my fellow Jamaicans. I called up Silver Seas to make a reservation for the Easter weekend like all other people from Kingston who have to get to Ocho Rios for that weekend. It was the last place available. The man that answered the phone was quite rude. First of all, he didn't even answer the phone with the name of the hotel. I had to ask otherwise I would have thought I dialled incorrectly and caught someone at home in their bathroom. I let that bit slide and proceeded to tell him which nights I wanted to make reservations for plus how many people would be coming with me. In order to guarantee the reservation, the first night's deposit must be paid to the hotel's account at a bank here in Kingston. That I fully understand and had no problem with. He gives me the details of the bank and account number and then says I will need to fax him a copy of the deposit slip in order to guarantee the room. So I ask him the fax number and his name. I got the fax number but he was hesitant to divulge his name. He eventually gives me his christian name and then says "I'd rather not divulge my surname". So I begin to question that issue because if I'm going to pay over my money to this place then I need a complete name for my own piece of mind. He refused to give me his full name as if the transaction is an underhanded one. I ask to speak to his supervisor and he responds by saying "I am the supervisor". So I ask for the owner and was getting anywhere with that either. So I just told him goodbye even though he had a reservation for me. I'd rather stay in Kingston while all my friends go to Ocho Rios to party than enter into a transaction with these people. Be careful of this place, something is not right about how they do business!!!
Deceiving!!
Be prepared to get a room that does NOT LOOK at all like the one you see on the pictures... The rooms are very gloomy, the light gets darker and darker. The bathroom is dirty and leaky. The front reception area needs a lot of touch ups. The staff were friendly. The neighborhood is quite scary!!! It is located in a very bad, unattractive area. We did not leave any valuable things in the room but we also did not stay for more than 24hrs! We rented a car so we didn't really roam around the little streets. If you really want to have a peace of mind when travelling in Jamaica, do not choose this place!!!
Silver trash can
The Silver Seas is the ultimate trashcan! We had to kick our door to enter the room. The rooms do not resemble the pictures! Do not be fooled and ruin your Jamaican vacation. There are NO PHONES in the rooms to call for help. There's NO HOT WATER TO SHOWER! There's NO STAFF to get a drink! There aren't window coverings, the blinds might have 3 slats. The beach is another JOKE.......more concrete than sand and dirty. The one thing there's plenty of is drugs. They're offered to you constantly by the people allowed to "hang out" in the Silver Seas! Whoever the owners may be, you have alot of cleaning to do to get rid of the people "hanging out" there and the hotel itself! we left within less than 24 hours, but not before things were stolen from our locked room. Do not stay there!!!
Loved Jamaica, Not this Hotel
My now husband proposed to me on the jetty at the Silver Seas. Our 1st day there was magical. We had breakfast at the restaurant on site.
(Have a open mind and try something different) That night he took me to a romantic dinner for 2 up in the hills. We came back that Sunday night to find live entertainment in the hotel bar. We had a blast! Tambuca was awesome. I still wish that we could have invited Leroy back to Indiana to sing at our wedding!!! The only negative thing that I have to say is "Have a cell phone!" The last night of our trip, 3 guys tried to break in to our room. Thank God we woke up when we heard the sound of one of them trying to undo the lock on our door. the doors are all glass, so we could see the 3 of them. When I awoke my fiance, he turned on the lights and it took minutes (what seemed like hours) for the 3 men to finally leave. When we approached the management as we were leaving, they said that they gave the wrong room # to the guys the night before. "It's funny how they seemed to really work at the 3 locks on the door and had no luggage with them at the time." This story has so many more details but I know that you will probably not display it since it says in your disclosure that you will not show anything that tells about criminal activity. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather stay at the "Silver Seas" than any all inclusive resort... I just want people to be aware that there are no phones and no outside contact and to be on their toes. I would stay there again if there were a way to contact police in case I were about to get raped and have 3 guys steal my ($$$$) engagement ring. (Did I mention how while my fiance was out jetskiing, 2 guys sat at one end of the pool eyeing my new engagement ring and our video camera's and speaking a language that I could not understand!?!?) Enough said. Be careful!
Absolute dump !! Stay away !!
This is a hotel that will leave a bad taste about Jamaica. It must have
been okay when it was built many decades ago but is poorly maintained.
It has a nice view from the rooms but everything else is horrible.
The entrance to the hotel is right besides a dirty alley with animals
and drunk people. The people in the reception are unprofessional and
least bothered about the guests. There is no telephone in the rooms. If
you have to make a call you have to go to the lobby and people there
are not helpful .
The bathroom in the hotel room is small and dirty. Most of the time there is no hot water in the bathroom.
If you are new to the country and want some literature on the tourist
attractions -forget it. There is none available.
If you want to have breakfast in the hotel try to keep atleast 2-2 1/2
hours and try to have all the patience you can. You will need it.
Wanted to change hotels as soon as we got in but being a holiday
weekend all other hotels were booked
Silver Seas no problems mon!
Silver Seas is a great place for those who want to explore more of jamaica, you can go and come as you please, the rooms are average and has a excellent sea view. I would recommend this resort to those who want cheap, clean accomodation and does not want all the trappings an all inclusive resort provide.
Awful
The hotel room was dirty, the air conditioner visibly rusty, furniture old broken-down, and one bare lightbulb hanging from a wire down from the ceiling. From the sidewalk outside you could see right into the bathroom - no window covering. It is located off an alley. The staff entered our room when we went out for a little while and it was not for housekeeping purposes. The place just gave us the creeps - called another hotel and left within two hours of arrival. We were actually afraid to sleep there. Had to pass between the pool and the bar to reach our room. One employee was courteous and helpful.
Silver Seas - just the place
A very laid back place. Good for adults do not think little kids would like it. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Breakfast and lunch are moderately priced and well prepared. You can walk to town. Excellent bakery as well as several inexpensive eateries are a 5 minute walk away. Excellent reef for snorkel diving right off hotel
Horrible
2 words "Stay home". the street outside of the hotel are so rough you don't even went to leave the hotel. The hotel is absolutly nasty and smelly. it looks nothing like the pictures and that is why there are no close up view of the hotel on the website. it is so so dirty and run down that we call our travel agent from the hotel and told them to move us that night . we didn't even sleep there.
