... went for dinner at a beach restaurant the best green Thai curry we have tasted in Thailand so far. Then the sound of thunder erupted (Emma a little scared) as we walked to the fire show bar for a drink. The rain started and we decided to go back to the room as the thunder storm looked to only get worse.
We had 2 power cuts that evening but they didn't last long. The next morning we were back to Bangkok for 1 night before our overnight train to Chiang Mai.

... I've grown accustomed to certain standards, and there are
many impecunious backpackers more deserving of a fan cooled hut with
mosquito infested bathroom than I!
Koh Samet is about 3 hours from
Bangkok so if a very popular weekend escape. No problem finding a place
to stay Mon - Thur, the trick is keeping it over the weekend.

... the kids playing outside. I shared a bed with her Grandaughter Num, who was 18. We couldn't speak to each other, but seemed to get along just the same; everyone found it amusing that she and I would stay up the latest, her on the internet and me reading my Twilight book, and wake the latest - just like a pair of teenage girls. ... came up to our table. Confused I asked why he had bought them?
FOR THE ELEPHANT he said. WHAT ELEPHANT? I said. THAT ELEPHANT he said nodding over my shoulder. Well I looked around not believing and sure enough I was literally face to face with this huge Elephant, I nearly jumped a mile. It was most funny. James gave us the bags and we hand fed the beautiful beast.
