I went back out to the mosque again that night and there were lots of people gathered around and stirring pots. The guy in the hostel said it was in celebration of Ashuara (the defeat of Iman Hossein in Karbala in 680 ish - a seminal moment for Shia Muslims). Into the Desert
Well the toudeshk thing fel astray due to me forgetting that the Iranian weekend is not the same as the western one. I will arrange to go Friday instead. So off to Yazd.
