... path. This made for one way only travel and we had to wait for some time to allow people through who were coming back down. The second snowfall was much larger and steeper than the first, and we made the ************* to turn around rather than rushing to the top and slipping, or missing our chairlift ride back down. Still it was amazing to be so close and to see snow still at this time of year.
We easily made it back to the chairlift and back to the ...

Smug moment of the day: Pulling on my fleece and woolly hat at the top of Mt K – yahboo to everyone who said I would never need such things in Australia.
What I watched. Adventureland with the kooky Jesse Eisenberg, the lovely Kristen Stewart and the ubiquitous Ryan Reynolds. It was a boy meets girls and sorts his life out type thing. A curious film but it did have lots of eighties music on it – what with being set ...
I had a 10.30 checkout deadline this morning which I thought was unreasonable until I got to my next accommodation which has a 10am checkout. Come on people – we need to have time to get up and going in the morning. I am quiet sure that I have left most of my stuff in the hotel in Canberra as I rushed to get out the door at 10.30 and avoid any comedian receptionists trying to charge me for an extra day.
I had a gentle drive ...
... We even found the name Corkery.
After the new parliament, we checked the new one. Not as good as the old one and its funky 70s look. We got the chance to see the original copy of the Magna Carta, though. After this, we drove to the Snowy Mountains. We opted for the hostel option because it was really cold up there!! We were two couple in the whole place (it is still low season in Jindabyne..winter starts on June 1st!) We ...
... old homestead in the process of being restored (see photos), some caves which I decided to take an unsupervised climb into, and a beautiful river, along with spectacular views. Now I am in Cooma, which is actually a lot smaller than I thought it was (8000 people) and found that I was quite unable to buy either a towel (having left mine in Euroa... very annoying) or a can of gas for cooking, as everything in Cooma shuts at 3pm on a Sunday. Also very annoying!!
Cooma, New South Wales, Australia wherever... sun takes to go down over the mountains. One evening the sun was still shining on the lake at 8pm. You can only imagine just how hard it is to get Jacob to go to bed at 7pm, when all the other kids on holidays were still running around at 9 o'clock. All in all we had a good stay and were happy with what we were able to see in a short amount of time. Stay posted for the second entry to this blog from further up in the National Park. Bye for now.

Teachers only pay for 10% of the Accom costs and receive a hot weather allowance ($1000 per year). I will be living in a 2 bedroom apt that has air-conditioning. After the Dept of Edu pays 90% of my rent, I will be paying $8.50 per week! It will be only semi furnished, so I have been on a little shopping spree for basic household ...
Jindabyne, New South Wales, Australia beccameldrum... to the map we had, to pass plenty of lakes. However most of the lakes that were indicated on the map were completely dried up.. Huge lakes became simply a piece of land. After 9+ hours of driving today we arrived in Kilmore, a town to just spend the night. We were watching some TV and rigt before turning the TV off Jarrett saw something over the mirror that was in front of the bed. We turned on the light and ...
Jindabyne, Australia jarrettalane... in 1928. He was one of small group of skiers. Caught out by the violent weather. Inside are a neat pile of logs and a fireplace on which to burn them. A large axe stands in the scullery. A visitor's book by the door to the hallway. I unpack my Primus stove and boil water with which to make hot coffee. And take in my present surroundings with huge satisfaction. It's starting to blow a gale outside and the door suddenly flies open and ...
