Historical Traveler Reviews of Siena Hotel Spa And Casino Reno

Understated elegance near enough to the action

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here in Feb 2003 instead of nearer to Lake Tahoe like last year for the following reasons: Reno is at lower elevation than Tahoe and was more temperate for apres ski activites. Museums, local tours, Amtrak station, more casino variety, shows. etc. Ski shuttles for Squaw, Northstar, and Mt. Rose pickup at Reno hotels. Local Bus #11 and #14 go all over Reno. Airport is much closer. All the hotels seem much cheaper in Reno than in Tahoe, and just as nice. I got a great hotel rate, at a first class hotel for booking ski lift tickets and the hotel room together. This particular hotel: We specifically asked for the cheapest room available when booking and this is what we got- Our room was one of the smallest in the hotel at 300 square feet-this sounds tiny, I know- but it was arranged comfortably, and appointed beautifully, just like in the advertisement photo. The 1-King room was decorated Spa/lodge style with fluffy white down comforters, soft beds (the most comfortable I have ever slept in in any hotel) marble floors and countertops in bathroom, wood trimmed mirrors, good lighting, all new fixtures, berber carpet, new (not antiques) traditional styled light colored wood furniture, writing desk, small cocktail table and 2 chairs. The view was not premium (we did not pay for a premium view) but still a very nice partly obstructed view of the rapids of the Truckee river. They do not supply robes anymore as advertised in their brochure. This was a bummer because the hot tub was on the roof and it was very cold so the robes would have been helpful for using the hot tub after a long painful day of skiing. The small pool was on the roof too, but not heated enough for me. I did not use it due to temperature and lack of robes. There were chairs and tables near the pool on the roof which we used to enjoy a nightcap and a cigar, the view of the stars, the mountains, the Truckee river, and the city lights. Small Refrigerator (A couple of time we ordered desserts and muffins to go and put them in the rooms refrigerator for later. We also kept real creamers in the refrigerator since they only supplied powdered creamer with the coffee-Yeeech!) alarm clock, 25" TV with HBO with really good reception (this is rare), 4-cup coffee maker, towels changed each day, Extra towel requests were handled promptly. Bathroom toiletries included Bath and Body Works brand shampoo, scented soaps, lotions, mouthwash(mouthwash or toothpaste is a rarely included hotel toiletry) Room service was prompt, friendly and the food as fresh as when we ordered it in the dining room. Friendly, relaxed casino. Security guards all over. Fast friendly service. Local calls, calling card calls free (I did this with no problems or extra charges), 800 calls are all free, 5.00 per person per day Food vouchers included in lieu of continental breakfast advertised, free high DSL speed internet if you bring your own laptop (we did and it worked great.) Free pre-reserved transport from hotel to airport in a leather appointed shiny black Eddie Bauer SUV.(you must call and make a reservation for this, however) Driver searched for us in the terminal holding a sign with our name; On time, courteous, helped get the luggage. We left for airport at 4:30 am on Saturday and the driver did not complain at all. The Contrada resturant was nice enough-an upscale attempt with 24/7 Bennigan's type of food selections, but with tasier food. Everything we ordered was hot, fresh, tasty. More relaxed atmosphere than the std casino hotel buffet lines. Service seemed a little slowish at times but we were mostly tired and impatient and always in a hurry to get somewhere so our perspective was certainly a bit skewed. Using the 5.00 per person per day food coupons we were able to get breakfast to go and eat it on the ski shuttle bus or on the ski deck after arriving at the mountain. We made a reservation for Lexie's but after looking at the menu and seeing 21.00 for a plate of pasta we decided it just was not worth it for a couple of windburned skiier's who just needed to replenish what they burned off during the day. It did look very nice though-lot's of beautiful, rich people. But, alas "Not my bag, baby!" The staff was kind to us even though we were obviously not rich and powerful. I would recommend this place for anybody who has some taste-but is not a snob, is reasonably mature and is not going act crazy, make alot of noise, or get drunk and throw up on stuff. Be sure to budget for tips. It's important. Tip everyone who serves you, even when the service is complimentary-restaurant waitress, barmaid, casino cocktail waitress, concierge, bellman, shuttle driver. Those people might work in a classy looking place, but they are just regular people like you and me trying to scrape out a living.

Reno's Elegant Hotel, Casino & Spa

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was very impressed with the quality of service and ammenities provided at such a reasonable rate for my first visit to the Siena over the weekend. The rooms are clean and comfortably well-appointed; everything works properly; the valet, bellman, housekeeping and registration staff are cheerful and helpful. Lexie's restaurant has wonderful atmosphere and excellent food in an unrivaled Reno setting along the Truckee River. The 24-hour cafe was adequate. The interior decor featuring the colorful flags of Siena, Italy was attractive and tasteful; the architecture of the remodel is quite well done. Proximity to the "strip" downtown is convenient (a stroll across the bridge), as well as the outstanding National Automobile Museum across the street. I enjoyed the spa, with it's muted lighting, soft upholstry, aromatic candles, and new age music--and the workout room has a great view, like the rooftop pool and spa. The wine cellar was a cozy, dim, low-ceilinged space, perfect for tasting wine or listening to live jazz. All in all, I think the Siena is the best thing going in Reno!

Pleasant Discovery

the hotel is quiet and elegantly appointed, the casino floor not crowed and perfectly laid out, the staff extremely friendly and you can tell they like working there, the location is just the right distance off the main drag along the truckee river and across the street from the national car museum and the main post office. from my understanding this property was rebuilt and completely remodeled and opened two years ago. if you want some relief from typical casino frenzy, a good layout for kids, this is the place. i've stayed in many hotels in the area and this one is going to be a winner.

A Nice Place To Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed at the Siena many times, and every time I have stayed there It was a home away from home. The staff was very friendly and the place was nice and clean. and the Suites are very very nice. My partner and I decided to go to the spa. It was worth the money we spent, It was relaxing and a very well derserve treat.

I am going back in Jan 2003 for another weekend get away, I would recommed the any of the resturants and I would recommended that you sign up for there river card.

Class in Reno !!!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Sienna this past weekend in one of their suites and I have never enjoyed Reno so much! The dealers were fantastic, the dining was excellent on the patio along side of the truckee river.

This place is a jewel abnda must for those who are tired of red velvet loud impersonal casinos.

The Sweedish Massage I received from George was the best!

Nothing Better in Reno

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I have had the pleasure of staying at the Siena in Reno several times in the last year and have found it to be the perfect place for all of our needs there. The casino is smaller with the bells and whistles tuned a little lower. The casino staff is fun, eliminating the need to seek out other casinos for play. The food is wonderful....try the Steak and Lobster!!!! I think the best part is going to your room and being completely spoiled by the down comforters, down pillows and lovely view of the river. The spa is the best way to relax and again the friendly atmosphere of the whole place keeps you coming back. We love it!!

Sadly, a "Spa" it is not...

from A TripAdvisor Member
Recently, I took a trip to Reno to see for myself, the Spa at the Siena. The young man at the desk was rude as I interupted his phone conversation; no slippers; no flowers as described; the Indian Esthetician complained of lack of product and procedures of co-workers during my 90 minute facial; A call to the Manager resulted in nothing. She asked if I was dissatisfied with the facial itself - the product, disregarding the atmosphere (which I am assuming is common where ever she is from), and I said not exactly, she then said "Then what do you want??". Appalled, I let her go. But what do I want?? For a $125 Facial, I want what is promised. Relaxation, a comfortable warm and inviting atmoshphere. Sadly, a "spa" it is not...

Double Charges Fights For Refunds

from A TripAdvisor Member
We traveled to Reno for the 2001 air races. Unforunately,

the races were cancelled because of the WTC attack. We left a day early. We found that the hotel charged us for all five days twice.

It has taken us over six months to get a refund via our credit card company. The hotel promised over and over that the refund was in the mail, sent to the card company, etc ...

Disappointing to say the least.
