We got to see the famous Emerald Buddha, a 75cm high statue set inside a temple and various other buildings including a miniature replica of Angkor Wat (a bit odd, but never mind!). ... decided to head back to Khao San Road for a bit of shopping. This gave us our first real opportunity to explore the streets of Bangkok by day. The difference between Bangkok and typically western cities is stark. Ok - so the blog was going to end there, and maybe it should have, BUT now that I'm on this bus y'all need to hear about it.
So it turns out I've accidentally booked myself a 1st class VIP bus and it's AWESOME. It was 1000baht -$30 seemed reasonable for both accommodation and transportation ...

Power cables decorate the street like tangled streamers decorating the wall of a party.
