Bangkok, again!!

Back to the big steamy city in time for our flight to OZ! We stay at a nice hotel Siam City for a last bit of cheap Asian style comfort...swim in the pool. We explored the MBK shopping centre and had our first Bangkok cinema experience: luxury! Comfy seats, extra free popcorn and we even stood for the National anthem at the beginning of the film (Lions for Lambs) paying our respect to the King. The skytrain was a great bonus and so easy to use.

Sunny Bangkok, relaxing getaway

We arrived at the Suvarnabhumi airport via Tiger Airways. It was our first time on a budget airline. All was good. The landing of the plane at Bangkok was surprisingly smooth, no jerky movements or whatsoever. We were tired and slept throughout our journey on the plane. The Thailand airport is huge. Unfortunately, not too well-organised. We thought it to be a little messy. We went to the airport basement to enquire about the airport shuttle to our hotel. The price sounded reasonable. But we wa...

To Bangkok (nearly home)

After our few days in Samui, we caught the plane back up to Bangkok for our two days shopping. Arrival at Siam City Hotel was magical; I thought this couldn't be the place we booked, way too nice. But lo and behold, we were in the right place, a ritzy upper class towering hotel, packed with important and glamorous people. The foyer was based around a beautiful water fountain and the next day as we descended from our suite, the entire place had changed. A gob-smackingly tall Christmas tree sto...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Siam City Hotel Bangkok

Quality hotel

from antonyb
We have stayed for 2 nights on 4 ocasions when passing through Bangkok.

Acessible to city by nearby skytrain with 1 stop so very convenient but out of the ratrace. Quicker transfer from airport than central hotels

Great foyer , excellent food, large quiet well equipped rooms,& very helpful staff. Pool & gym good. Hotel has a pleasant ambience & at no time have we experienced tourist groups & it does not have the feel of such. We would always use it for short stays & concierge particularly obliging with advice & luggage storage. We introduced an Asian business friend to hotel & he has changed his allegiance to Siam City

Simply perfect

If i'll come back to bangkok (i really think so) i'll stay surely in siam city.

Siam City, Great Hotel, Bad Location

from Phoenix123
We have just returned from a holiday in Thailand. Siam City is a luxury city hotel with lovely clean rooms and everything you might need. We enjoyed our stay here.

However the big downside is the location, there is nothing in the vicinity and the VERY busy road outside means it can take ages to get anywhere by taxi. (Cross the road to pick up a taxi it can save a lot of time!) The sky train is nearby which is a plus but it is limited to where it goes.

The pool area is very nice giving a feel of Thailand in amongst high rise buildings.

All in all a good 4/5 star hotel but I would pick a better location. The China Princess in the heart of Chinatown is far better situated but not quite as luxurious (we stayed there last year)

A really good hotel

from colbuck
We stayed for a week at this hotel and found it extremely clean and well located to access all Bangkok's touristic sites either by bus or by monorail. The area around the hotel is a safe one and there is even a small 7/11 shop next to the hotel.

Good but not brilliant......

from Gateway_12
Location : Nothing of any interest in the close vicinity of the hotel, however only 5 minutes walk from the Skytrain (Phaya Thai stop), which is very handy. When I stayed here, there was building work going on in the street outside (not connected to the hotel), I think that a by-pass was being built.

Food : Several different restaurants, including Italian, Chinese, and Thai. It also has a very good bakery. The cakes were exceedingly good.

Room : Not bad. It wasn't the largest or the smallest. I stayed in the wing (there is the tower or the wing). The bathroom is a little out-dated.

Other : I had a very good thai massage at the Lotus Spa - very good. If you want to use the internet you need to get a username and password from the cashier desk. It cost me Thb 200 for half an hours use. There also is a 7-11 next door where you can get cheap drinks/snacks - very useful.

Overall : The staff were very friendly and I encountered no problems. Is it a 4* hotel. Only just. Would I recommend it - Yes. Will I stay there again - probably, although I would choose to stay closer to Siam Square.

Enjoy !!!

There are better places than here

Our experience of Siam City wasn't that great. The rooms are fading and not that clean. A hotel that relies on package tours so if you are a single traveller/couple you tend to become lost from when you check in between the hordes getting off one bus or another.

It is not really close to the hub of town, or any thing much.

The sky train is across the road, but we found that when we came back at night it was fairly deserted and on some occasions it was a brisk walk back to the lights of the foyer.

For around the same price, the Pathuwam Princess is in a better spot; close to markets, shops, restaurants etc.

But my absolute pick is the Amari Watergate and believe it is worth the few extra dollars.

An Upscale Hotel at Relatively Low Price

from rahzamazin
Stayed here Feb 23-26, 2005 on a business trip to Bangkok. I booked on the hotel web site and got an $85 rate for a deluxe room, King bed.

The hotel room was very impressive. spotlessly clean, elegantly furnished and huge. Very comfortable bed. Gorgeous overesized marble bathroom with nice bathroom amenities. I would compare it to the Elliott Hyatt in Seattle, the Buckhead Hyatt in Atlanta, or the Swissotel in Chicago in terms of quality of the rooms. I have stayed at one other hotel in Bangkok (the Airport Amari hotel, which cost $278 per night and was not nearly as nice as the Siam City); $85 really is a very good value for this hotel, especially given the good quality of the room!!

The dining in the hotel is also good and surprisingly inexpensive for the good quality. The breakfast buffet is extensive and excellent quality. Both western and Asian items, both hot and cold are available as well as delicious baked goods. Even deli meats and cheeses --at breakfast! Excellent coffee with refills. It cost just over $10; a steal! I really enjoyed starting the day with the breakfast buffet.

Dinner in the same hotel restaurant was pretty good (although we ate better Thai food at outside restaurants for far less money for most of our meals). Again, both western and thai menus are available.

The cons for this hotel...well, given the price I can't complain too much. But I did find the front desk staff to be less than friendly at times. At checkout, there was a problem with incorrect charges and the person checking me out was obviously annoyed that I asked the charge to be taken off; customers do not deserve that attitude when it is the hotel that has made the mistake.

Also, one of the other guys in our party had a more expensive "executive floor" room which included breakfast in the executive lounge. Well, he came down to the main restaurant for breakfast instead (because the breakfast in the executive lounge was not as extensive), and they would not let him in! They insisted that he could only have breakfast in the executive lounge. Pay more for your room, get less, it seemed.

Also, there's not much else to do at the hotel. It's relatively small in size. I'm sure there are other hotels in Bangkok that are much larger and offer more restaurants, shops, etc. But there's so much to do in Bangkok, you don't want to spend too much of your time in the hotel anyway!

I would recommend this hotel highly. I am giving it 4 stars; really it should be 4.5 stars (deduct half a star for the inconsistent service). I hope I can return soon!

Siam City aint bad

from sand_200
Stayed here for four nights and it's not a bad hotel. Stayed in the second block - a wing off to the left of reception - the rooms are fairly large, bathrooms could do with some updating but it generally offered good service. The swimming pool was very nice - although it was slippy round the edge of the pool - be careful! But the gym was a real let down.

However the hotel is in a good location and is close to the Skytrain, shops and sights.

Two things - get a taxi from the other side of the road to the hotel - else you have to sit in all the traffic on that side as everything seems to be in that direction. Secondly don't bother trying to cross the road at the big junction up the street - it's near impossible (even with the traffic lights) - try to cross in front of the hotel!

Excellent!

An excellent hotel with superb staff! I stayed here last Xmas and beginning January.

Best quality-price hotel in Bangkok !

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Siam City is definitely the best quality-price hotel in Bangkok !

It's really a 4-stars hotel... Unlike other Bangkok hotels that get a lot of stars, but do NOT deserve them !

Siam City has wonderful large rooms with large bath, the housekeeping is fantastic, hotel's staff is really helpful.

Siam City's location is in front of the Suan Pakkard Museum in Downtown Bangkok, just 1 minute by walk from the Skytrain's Phayathai station, so you don't even need to take a taxi, and this is really an enormous plus in a city like Bangkok !

Siam City's Spa & swimming pool are marvellous, all the area has been renovated, and this part of Siam City definitely gets a 5-stars rating !

Food is amazing, breakfast at the main restaurant is fantastic, there are a lot of dining options in the hotel, and I highly recommend the "Spice&Rice" Thai restaurant, as well as the Japanese restaurant (the best in town).

We didn't try the Italian restaurant, but, we're from Europe, so why go as far as Asia and eat pizza & pasta ?!

Siam City has an impressive tour desk, they can arrange whatever you want to visit, even a 3 days-trip to Cambodge !

Overall rating for Siam City: 19/20 !
