We walked down the street, popped into the first building that looked like a hotel (which took a couple minutes of walking..) and asked how much a room for 3 would be. 700 Baht. for three- that's 20.50 to split 3 ways. This was no run down hotel either. The lobby had dark hardwood and gave off ...

There was nothing measurably wrong with the place. It just wasn't very nice. Truly, the only thing that was strange was the fact that the entire bathroom, about 5'x5', was also the entire shower. We get a dinner recommendation the an old man sitting in front of the hotel. ...

... to the assumption that I must make this decision due to blindness to my own persecution, rather than as a critically thought-out choice. For a few days, I struggle with the decision of whether or not to visit a village, even going so far as to read a thesis on the subject of the Kayan people. In the end, I finally make up my mind while I'm driving one day. It's hard to express the disproportionate amount of freedom that comes with having a car. Navigating ...
