Beijing is Top 10 in the World

... so packed with people that it was difficult to really fully get the "feel" of an ancient chinese city here. It is tourist season here for the locals so everything is twice as busy in Beijing right now including trains to Xi'an where I was intending to go see the Terracotta warriors.

Yes so the Terracotta warriors are going to have to wait for me to make a visit another day. The options for me to get to Xi'an were to stand for 12 hours on a night ...

Long Island Iced Teas

... fun and after we went to a club called "Mix..." and i danced till 3:30 to a really awesome dj who was playing tons of michael jackson songs! Although the night was fun, I dont see myself doing that every weekend because I got REALLY tired dancing for so long, and the drinks and cabfare were kind of expensive all together! I've got a few pictures on a friends camera that i'll update later!

We've arrived!!

... and sampled corn on the cob on a stick.  Although, it was not State Fair of Oklahoma quality! The food vendors sell lots of things cooked on a stick such as cicada, sea horse, cocoons, chicken hearts,  and squid. We sampled plums on a stick dipped in a brown sugar mixture. The weather is sunny and warm much like Oklahoma!

Brilliant Beijing

... their drills before the daily flag lowering ceremony that happens at sunset. I was great to be able to see them meticulously march up and down in perfect synchronisation and then to break out into song as they marched towards the flagpole in Tiananmen Square. Together with a few other people who were watching the precession we followed the platoon till they got to the final gate before crossing the road to Tiananmen Square. As we walked through the last gate I was amazed to see ...

A Saturday with a Rickshaw and Cleaning Woman

... time to get out before meeting my friend Andrea and her boys for a Saturday night excursion to an ex-pat hideaway. Andrea was to pick me up by 5 pm, and a couple phone calls reconfirmed this. The problem was, she couldn't find my apartment. It is incredibly humiliating when you can't explain where it is that you live; that without the aid of a map, and some very caring taxi drivers, you can not find you're ...

... bushes. We turned down an ally full of people. Our van could barley fit through the ally at some parts due to all the bikes, mopeds, and parked cars along the side of the road. My first thought was that there had been a war I didn't know about in this neighborhood. I write this because there were piles of rubbish, such as bricks, dirt, and some garbage along the road in front of the houses. We made it to the Red ...

... cheap beer. We were then accosted by some Chinese students, on holiday from Beijing to celebrate their graduation, who insisted that we joined them for some karaoke. After politely trying to avoid singing we were forced to take part in some Karen Carpenter number, which is still going through my head a week later. After this we made a quick exit and drank more beers with the hope of inducing amnesia.
