    Today was our first day with classes. What a whirlwind it was! I think my head is still spinning! After breakfast, we had our first Mandarin Class. It was a lot of information to take in. I can safely say that mastering the Chinese language will not come anytime soon. Immediately following our Mandarin class, we transitioned to Chinese Calligraphy. HARD. We both suck! Supposedly it gets easier, and we will get better as time goes ...

    We drive to the mount of holy buddha. Nr 1 mountain in China. From the entry only buses drive up and down the valley. The drivers honk before, at and after every turn, at each bus and tourist....     ... a jungle-like area of the campus. The service-woman at the counter confirmed my reservation (which was made on my behalf by Professor Lu Ling, who teaches at Sichuan University) and directed me to my room.

    ... else to do and it'd be neat to see how they lived in Chengdu. When we got there we found the Chengdu Temple Fair going on right there in the middle of the quarter. We paid the 20RMB to get in and we were overwhelmed by the amount of people there. It was like a carnival, buddhist temple, and food fair all in one. There was even a section made to appear like a medieval castle with "western" looking guys on horses with swordes in their hands. We opted not to pay to go in to ...
