Mount Abu

After a horrendous bus journey we arrived in Mount Abu at 5am. We shared a taxi from the bus station with a lady called Eilane from Brazil to the guest house which was recommended to us by a few people. The guest house was again fairly basic but the people were friendly enough so it was fine. We had to wait in a dorm room until half 9 when our rooms would be available so Em carried on being sick and going to the toilet, we had a few hours kip checked into our rooms and then finally Em was fee...

We traveled to Mount Abu by night train this time in third class which turned out to be even better than second. We had reservations within a carriage of six middle aged gentlemen and their wives who welcomed us into their fold with sweets from Mumbai and talk of their travel to Mount Abu. On arrival we had to barter hard for a taxi up to the mountain about 45 minute drive and the guys from our train had a word with our driver which we think was to make sure that he didn't drive like a maniac...

We weren't too fussed on Jaipur, but loved Udaipur with the palace in the middle of the lake narrow alleyways and good coffee to drink! It is where the old Bond flick Octopussy was filmed. As an added bonus we even got to see the world's biggest turban. Oh the exciting lives we do lead. :)

A funny recent development is that the commercial that we were extras for in Mumbai is now on the ...

Seit gestern sind wir in Mount Abu, einem Ferienort in den Bergen (Hügeln). Im berühmtesten Jain-Tempel hatte es unzählige indische Touristen und wir, die einzigen Weissen. Each temple is carved out of marble, and in some places the stone is worked so fine that the sun shines through and makes the temple translucent. In the two largest temples, the placing of the tirthankaras (the teachers) was so well thought out that if you stand in front of each one (there are 52) and look to ...

Mont Abu - un po' di respiro

This park is known for having some big waterfountains that time the display to music. when we inquired as to why all of the water features were turned off, we were told we have to pay extra for them to turn on the water.... afterall, this is India. ... with the handicap of having white skin, we brushed this off with a laugh. As we make remarks about the continued absence of Marya amongst ourselves while making cheese and butter sandwiches a giant langur monkey jumped up from beyond a wall and stared at us menacingly. Before we realized the mistake of having our food around he made a dash for us baring his teeth. As we jumped up briskly and backed away with fear of being bitten, he grabbed a sandwich. At this point we ...
