... for religious artefacts and souvenirs. It was a very spiritual place surrounded by mountains. In fact Wutai Shan means "Five Terrace Mountain" and is names after the five highest peaks, all with flat tops, which surround the village and is one of the holiest sights in China. The temples are 'working' temples and all have resident clergy and many of the visitors were pilgrims who were thumbing rosaries and prostrating themselves as they climbed the temples staircases. As such, there are many temples, monks in these temples, and monks and people who pilgrimage to this area. There is an entrance fee to the Wutai Shan area and also a mandatory bus fee so you can take the local buses to some of the temples. I think I am now templed out and I haven't even made it to Bhutan yet. I saw tons of temples ...

... metres. Hanging to the cliff by using rocks, hidden supports and wooden structures, the temple worships Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. It then took us a few hours to drive to Wutai Shan. The last part of the drive was through winding roads up the mountains. At points there were cows grazing beside the road and all over the mountains. Many of the mountains though were completely forest covered with coniferous trees. This is different from some ...
