Inside Wutai Mountain Tourism Resort Wutaishan, Shanxi, China, 0350-6548553
Wutaishan was one of our greatest disasters to date.Hee and there's been a few. I booked a hostel which gave directions to Wutaishan bus station but was in fact in Nanning- a whole other provence. Oops.
Pretty place, once we'd finally checked into somewhere in our price range. It was the coldest place I've ever been. The water in the river had frozen solid! We had pot noodles in bed and tried some rice wine, (evil smelling stuff) and quickly got on a bus out of there!
Love Lucy xxx
Wutaishan, Shanxi, China lucy_and_adele... this since Lord Baggott's Secret Luxury Appartment in the Riviera...

After forcing ourselves not to hide away in the hotel room for 2 days we went out on a tour of the famous hanging temples and caves. The temples are over 2000 years old and suspended 100 meters above ground on a sheer cliff face, the caves even older full of buddhist carvings. Both of these were amazing, as you will see on the photos....

Wutaishan, Shanxi, China sylvainboisse... and get serious about religion.

4 temples later, a horse ride and Alex climbing the money temple stairs, tiger skins, cat and fox fur on offer in the market, some terrible food and the most beautiful, friendly Monk who invited us to listen to him playing his flute we had had a magicaly experience in WuTaiShan and were seriously comtemplating giving Buddhism a whirl we were ready to leave...
Wutaishan, Shanxi, China itsnot5star... two minute walk outside to get to the toilets. It's amazing how a little thing like that teaches you some self control. The town itself is peaceful enough. There are lots of monasteries around, far more than I would ever wish to visit, and about half the people you see walking the streets are monks or nuns ofone denomination or another. Red, yellow and grey robes were all in evidence, if that means anything to anyone. There didn't seem to be anything of ...
Wutai Shan, China mrconfused... we went for dinner - the girl we were with was shouting instructions at the poor waitress, no time for pleasantries in this country! We had a huge meal for little or nothing and the food as usual in China was gorgeous. There was no electricity while we were in Pingyao so we didn't get to see the lanterns lit up at night which is beautiful (we seen it on Pete's camera from the night before).
Pingyao, China paulandlin... seen through my photos. We went to a 1500 year old monastery quite literally and impressively clinging from the side of a cliff, then on to a succession of MASSIVE Buddhas and impressive halls carved into another set of cliffs. Somehow wandered onto the regular backpacker trail so met a few other travellers for the first time in my trip which was a little strange all of a sudden, but found a great German couple that I travelled with to the next stop ...
Wutaishan, China shawnsmith... It was really interesting to see the construction and walk through the hallways and on the balconies overlooking the valley. Later we climbed the staircase, walked through the dragon's mouth and came to be on top of a hidden dam, the other side creating a nice lake. In all we spent about two hours there and in town we had a fun dinner and then went to the hotel and watched Lin Jia perform acrobatics and gobbled up all the available candy we could find!
