In search of the elusive Bengal Tiger
... away from all the noise and the traffic! We were surrounded by monkeys, elephants, deer, spiders, bugs of all shapes and sizes and numerous other animals. Both days we were up at the crack of dawn to try and catch a glimpse of these magnificent animals (tigers that is) but after 2 jeep safaris we'd had no luck. So on our last evening, in a final attempt to see them, we booked to ride an elephant deep into the jungle where the jeeps can't go.

money for our poor driver to drive us six hours to Haridware (and
back, 12 hours for him) over roads that looked like they have been
exploded by grenades, overtaking two buses at once in the opposite
lane around blind corners. Did I mention I was sick again the whole

... de eerste rustpauze naar buiten ging en Myrthe snel op zijn plaats kon komen zitten! Maakte de rest van de uren toch iets draaglijker, wat wel mocht aangezien het uiteindelijk 12 uur heeft geduurd om hier te geraken!
Maar uiteindelijk zijn we dan toch bij een van de heilige steden aangekomen. Blijkbaar heeft Visjnoe hier zijn voetafdruk achtergelaten wat het water van de Ganges heilig maakt, zodat mensen van overal zich hier in de ghats willen komen wassen ...

I Rishikesh forstaar jeg pludselig, hvordan man kan tage til Indien for at "finde sig selv". Byen er bygget op omkring Floden Ganges (en af 7 hellige floder i Indien), og her er spirituel stemning overalt. Butikkerne er fyldt med krystaller, CDer med meditationsmusik og boger om yoga. So
I go to sleep. Its amazing what a nights sleep can do for you. I've
decided to stay. So I go to see this town today and go to Rishikesh
tomorrow. I take a rickshaw, like the queen on my own 50rupees
(80cent) .. I know when I'm being ripped off and this will have to
change.
