    ... we went to a restaurant that specialises in Okonomiyaki. These are a spiced crepe or pancake where ingredients are often particular to a certain locality. They were flavoured with a Worcestershire type sauce and were really very tasty - you order from a range of meats or even a combination.     ... and seaweed rolls, Andrew and I both ordered proper Sushi dishes. Mine had a steamed prawn, and at least 3 types of raw fish along with tofu and some other unidentifiable stuff that tasted OK. You get a good dab of wasabi with it, and the deal is to mix it into a few tablespoons of soy sauce to dip the food into. I really quite enjoyed it.
    After dinner we went into the Onsens for half an hour or so. Tomorrow we might try a public onsen ...

    ... a little bit. I understood when she asked me what country I was from and if I was riding to Kusatsu. After I finished eating my apple which was quite delicious, she came back to the fruit stand with a big basket of freshly picked apples and gave me a free one that had some blemishes on it. That kind gesture lifted my spirits and I set off again with a bit more zip.
