... hostel and again just chilled trying another Japanese beer . We then decided that we couldn't avoid trying Okinomiyaki which is famous to Osaka . We went to a restaurant and they cooked the Okinomiyaki for us and then put it on the hot plate in front of it. Even though it was so small it was thick and very filling . Very different to home as well . It was a wonderful first day in Kyoto. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. ...

... cleansing and fat burning type of thing. Not for the typical red-blooded American I would think, but it certainly has its benefits. A week or so was god enough for us and resulted in a greater appreciation of our food providing friends such as pigs, chickens and cows. Oh and remember the natto (sticky fermented beans) mentioned in a previous post? That is definitely approved on the macrobiotic diet...yum!

And now on to our second day off in Matsumoto. I thought originally that I would be able to include both days in one entry, but I am rather more loquacious than I anticipated (go figure) so you are now fortunate or unfortunate to be able to read about another sightseeing extravaganza in Matsumoto!

... the castle as we climbed the steep stairways the the top and the offering of rice is still there as well, renewed each month to protect the castle.

The castle itself has 6 floors, although only 5 are visible from the outside. the 3rd floor is without windows or arrow slits and was protected more or less. This room was used for storage of food and supplies, however, and did not shelter any human beings hiding from assault. ...
