Tokyo, Japan banilaWe visit Tokyo yet again...This time to see some more flowers in Shinjuku-gyoen (see previous entry for photos), as well as to see a couple performances. The first was a small butoh performance at a really neat alternative art venue in Tokyo (Tokyo Art Complex), and was pretty interesting to say the least. The second performance was at the Takarazuka Review, an all-women's theatre group that arose ...
Tokyo, Japan fiseb... scalding hot crystal clear water that stung in all the places it probably shouldn't. Whilst sitting on a rock almost totally submerged in the water I did as Masa did, we talked quietly and he explained that this first bath was mineral water pumped directly from one of many hot springs found all over Japan. The second bath we tried was just as hot but instead of clear inviting liquid it had a caramel coloured solution. I have to admit the herbal soak was fantastic and made the ...
Tokyo, Japan rush... fairly grand. Which brings me onto the last thing I was going to mention: Tokyo apartments. I use the word apartment here in the loosest sense of the word because really, if you're renting a place in Tokyo you get a room and not a very big room at that. When we arrived at Mac's "apartment", I thought he was just being a cheap-skate, renting a tiny apartment so he had more disposable income for comic books and trips around Japan. I now realise that his situation is perfectly ...
Tokyo, Japan alasdairnicola... the station there. Yoko needed sashimi for that night's dinner. We picked out fresh scallops, ebi (shrimp), and maguro (tuna) which she packed with tiny ice packs and I carried home on the train. When we got home we had a really fun dinner of do-it-yourself sushi. We used the seafood we bought (raw of course!) strips of egg and cucumber slices to make individual rolls of rice and nori. It was very tasty! I kept a kimono count on Saturday - I saw 12 women wearing ...
Tokyo, Japan markenhylda... lovely enough to take us out and show us the sites. We stayed at their 21st floor earthquake proof apartment in Roppongi which is said to be the Kings Cross of Tokyo but honestly this is the cleanest, safest, most affluent version of Kings Cross I've ever come across. Carrie took us out to see the sites, we had some awesome (and cheap) sushi for lunch. Did some site seeing, shrines and Crazy busy shopping lanes. a stroll past the amazing Prada building. That night, battling just the ...
Tokyo, Japan andrewmarnie... knows Chinese and it is fine to fill in some parts with Chinese. It was very boring on plane. I wonder how people can spend a whole day on plane. We arrived on time and took bus to the Shinjuku. The bus was so big and comfortable. In fact, other than taking bus, there are other choices, like the Narita express (train). The name of the airport bus ...
