... trying to scale the stone walls is called "ishiotoshi". These outlets were built into the east, west and north walls of the first and second floors of the watchtower. It is quite a majestic structure. The castle walls didn't look quite as steep as some we have seen, but their defence measures must have been quite successful as the castle claims to have never been damaged by war and is the only remaining castle in the Sarin area.

... house overlooking a beautiful garden - felt like we were back in time in the old, traditional Japan.

After catching japanese birds on the camera we stopped at one of Matsue's sweet / souvenir shops - where every item looked so unfamiliar, we have never felt so strange in the sweet shop before!
We have obviously bought few items including tea made of a cherry blossom!

It was really interesting to see how quiet and respectful all the students were during the assembly. After a tour of the school, we took part in three English classes. This morning after a quick trip to the post office to stock up on some money we caught the Lakeline bus to the castle. The bus was a very cute old fashioned tram. The castle was incredible. We were so lucky to get there with the cherry blossoms in full bloom and a lovely warm sunny day. We even luckily saw a ninja there and had some photos taken.
