Hadimba Road Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India, 175131, 91-1902-252251
We awoke on Thursday morning in Delhi at 4:30 AM to make it to the airport 2 hours in advance for our domestic flight from Delhi to Bhuntar (Kullu). We boarded the 16 seater twin prop plane and Hilary was a little anxious. It took a team of 12 men to prep the plane for take-off - a theme here in India. The short flight 1 hour 20 minutes, was incredible. We had a beautiful view and as we approached our destination the mountains came into sight. From the vast plains dotted with frequent populat...
Manali, India ando
... totally pleased with my work. The sun was supposed to dry the things in a couple of hours.
I read Catch-22 - it's actually a funny book. I try to keep the words I don't know in Anki. The built-in New Oxford American Dictionary & Writer's Thesaurus comes up handy - many words have interesting "Origin" articles. Among the latest findings are: tepid & frantic :)
In the afternoon the ...
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India maxint... like an indian reject from the terminator franchise, and the other a throwback to the 70's porn industry!

they took us to a number of ancient temples after this, one of which, the manu maharishi temple is the reputed landing place of manu, the saviour of humanity who saved both humans and animals from a great flood by building a massive boat. sound familiar? the more i learn about different religions and their universal similarities ...
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India marklawless1... Indian community who call this place home. Add to that mix the many foreigners who stay- some to study Buddhism or yoga- and others just to hang out and/or volunteer, plus the local Indian tourists that descend here on week-ends - all in all it makes for an interesting and colourful crowd. It is a little touristy but hassle free. Our first week was spent trying out the Iyengar Yoga classes in Dharamkot, a ...
McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh, India kalsi_kaur... release hundreds of little divas (lamps) onto the ganges, and where people wash in the Ganges. Rishikesh was such a nice place. It was especially good as we went during off-peak season so the atmosphere was really chilled out and there weren't many touts around. There were, however, loads of Monkeys of many varieties! The views in Rishikesh, like in Manali were just beautiful. The water was a clear, aqua colour and there were blue skies every day. The scenery was starkly different ...
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India jilna... groups did try to walk out three days into our imprisonment, but they came back because numerous avalanches had made blocked the roads. Our days revolved around mealtimes. We would start off the day with a cup of chai and some cookies, and lunch would be rice and dal (beans) served around noon. Then some more chai, then dinner (more rice and dal), and then a cup of tea before we tried to go to sleep. Some people slept on the ...
Batal, India cmm80... By this I mean that if you require a guide (which due to several mysterious disappearances of trekkers in this drug trade reagion it behooves you to have) you get the whole package deal which includes an entourage of cook, guide, ponies, tents, food, and horsemen. There is no regard to weight of goods nor biodigradability of materials used. Trash is burned or piled in a ditch (this offended our environmental sensibilities ...

Manali, India cerise... an after school class to children too (not women like I expected). I prefer this teaching as it is calmer and the children are really responsive because they come voluntarily. We're all finding the work pretty hard to be honest, idex is not particularly organised so we have to do everything ourselves which is ***********e of us are teachers or have run schools before. But at least we're trying. The kids seem to have a laugh and enjoy the lessons which is the most important thing.
Macleod Ganj, India cruisekate... the one hand it will be hard to leave, on the other it will be easy. . So, up in the morning with Surya, (hindi for "sun," not some russian girl, by the way") and off down the mountain back to the NH 22, reaching Manali on a sunday, the easiest day to find lodging. I will try to check in from there, but after that I will be up in disputed Kashmir on what is said to be the most beautiful road in the world. There will be a bit of ...
