... the clean rooms, spotless ensuite bathroom and well appointed little touches (fridge/ hairdryer/ free drinks/ shampoo/ air conditioning etc.) - Ah bliss! So having found a base for my stay in Jeju and somewhere to dump my rucksack I set about exploring the area, starting with the Jeju-si itelf.
As Korea's number one honeymoon destination the island is set up with (foreign and domestic) tourist resorts all round near the beaches, however with ...
... the goo is. Anyway Matt loves them and seems to be able to sniff them out all over Amsterdam. In true Wells fashion we decided to spend the afternoon climbing the highest thing that we could find. This happened to be the tower of Westerkircher. We were initially a little disappointed to find that we would have to do a guided tour, but once we got inside we realised why. We climbed 300+ steps up a tiny staircase that was more like a ladder in some places. I couldn't even ...
Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands wells2008...
Jeju City, Jeju Island, Korea Rep. quebekwalouis... plane was strikingly empty with what seemed like only 15 passengers. I am not sure if it is a widely publicized fact that, despite the utility gained, I do not like flying all that much. The thunderstorms that I knew would be over Jeju-do did nothing to aleviate that dislike as we had "issues" landing and had to abort the first landing after touching the first two landing gears to the ...
Jeju City, Jeju Island, Korea Rep. justinoxxii... was either that or the Van Gogh Museum, and I had already purchased the museum ticket online (10 euros, same as the booth price). I like Van Gogh, but at this point, I was just tired and wanted to chill. Van Gogh is a little out of the way too. The e-ticket definitely pushed me to go to the museum. So I somehow made it there and saw only 3 people in the ticket line, a big contrast to the Anne Frank House which definitely had a ...
Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands sojanet... be around 7 Euro, the cab driver took 10 (no meter in the cab, and his odomotor said 1.8km - which according to the sign in the cab mean't 7.60 Euro) Much nicer being taken for a ride when all you lose is 50c! Very glad I went though. Just not so glad this whole holiday is over. Now I sit at Heathrow waiting for my flight home - and I'm told it's a full one (and QANTAS isn't as kind as Iberia in terms of upgrades!)
Amsterdam, Netherlands bigkevoz... That was easy. I felt quite relaxed, but i worried a little later on, when 3 Americans or Canadians were pitching a tent in front of me. I was worried they were gonna say hi, worried because i dont think i was capable of talking. I think i'll just stick to the beer from now on, and maybe the odd museum. Yeah, the next day i was off to the Biblical museum to see what all the fuss was about. I learnt what a tabernacle is and what it ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands goldenbez... and coming down the same narrow spiral staircase. A bit winded at the top, I stopped to admire the view and catch my breath. Almost everything else except the cathedral in Koln was destroyed during WWII, so pretty much everything you can see from up there was rebuilt since 1946. Next, I took a train into my 6th country of the trip, the Netherlands. I know now why they call them the "Low Countries", because they're absolutely flat, no hills and ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands dig_swashb... Ann Arbor's Crisler arena with a crowd of 15,000 in December 1971. His song (It Ain't Fair) "John Sinclair" was the highlight of a knockout show that included Stevie Wonder, Allen Ginsberg, Phil Ochs, Jerry Rubin and Bob Seger. Among the rock critics on hand were a matched pair of FBI agents who wrote in a confidential memo to J. Edgar Hoover that Yoko Ono "can't even remain on key." They suggested that the song "probably will become a million seller... but it is ...
Amsterdam, Netherlands johnsinclair... shop right next to me. I introduced myself, and he was very friendly. He offered to take me back to the city, cook for me at his restaurant, and take me to a couple of his favorite spots. One of them was a road where you go to the bottom of a hill, put your car in neutral, and it goes up the hill. So bizarre. Next, he took me to a naturally sculpted rock garden, which holds a lot of insight into the traditional ...
