Shangri-La, Yunnan, China montgomeryr3... the last bits of an excellent egg and tomato breakfast. Our drivers loud cellphone chatting forewarned us of his imminent arrival before he was announced by our hostess. Multiple guest houses in the Tiger Leaping Gorge area competed for business, running minibuses to and from the beginning of the trail was one method of acquiring tourist dollars. This bus often stopped at unnamed locations to pickup riders and stragglers. That was how we met Karla and ...
Shangri-La, Yunnan, China tipperoonie... land, isolated from the outside world by high mountains. But also other places in the Buddhist Tibetan Himalaya region claim to be the real Shangri-la, from Tsaparang in modern Tibet, to isolated Bhutan,to the Hunza valley in Pakistan's border region with Tibet, a place that James Hilton has visited before he published his novel. So I arrived now in one of the maybe a dozen of ...
Shangri-La, Yunnan, China tom-of-boracay... it on there is a high chance of interbreeding and the panda sperm not working. They live in the rainforest which makes their black and white fur completely un-camouflaged and their diet of bamboo totally un-nutritious. To make things even worse, despite their size they have no defense against predators. Have they ever heard of Charles Darwin? Its only because of artificial insemination at this breeding sanctuary that they are not extinct. Afterwards we headed to ...
Zhongdian, China baileyandkerry... Lijiang which is like tourist town on steroids. We spent the afternoon walking around the big monastery there. It was full of monks of all ages, with lots of temples, and chanting going on. We ended up talking to a couple of monks, they all thought I was the guys translator. We met a really old monk that had such a thick accent no one could understand him. No hard feat for me.
Shangri La, China sasull... to climb. We went to watch the locals dance in the square of the new town, this is a popular evening activity with tibetans and isn't put on for tourists. Tibetan dancing is fairly simple, a bit like line dancing from the states. Got an afternoon bus to QiauTou, a small town at the start of the poplar treck in the Tiger leaping gourge. We searched for a pub, you know drinking establishment with maybe music. Well they don't know here, following loud ...
