Made it!

Made it to Tokyo. Long flight but not too bad. Found it actually very easy to get around the airpot and get to my hotel. Surprised by how much was actually in English. Will post pictures soon...

Kiomizu Dera & Kinkakuji (Golden Pagoda) Kyoto

Today we visited the Kiomizu Dera Temple which takes you through the Gion area (Famous for its Geisha Houses). Here there is a shrine famous for providing assistance with your wishes particularly in the area of "love"! We then went on to the beautiful Golden Pagoda where Darren spotted a crane (symbol for Longevity - age not height) before catching a train back to Shinagawa in Tokyo. Some lovely photos from today - Enjoy

Arrival in Tokyo~

We arrived late on March 28 after a verrrry long flight (to me, anyway!). Within minutes of stepping out of the airport doors, a man approached me and asked, "You are living in Memphis?" because I was wearing a University of Memphis shirt that a relative had given me. I was really surprised but when I answered, "No, I just have relatives there," he looked disappointed and walked away.

The bus ride from Narita to our hotel was long and dark. I was very tired and had a headache, but even...

Did you see 'n' do you know, How they do in tokyo!

...Having said goodbye to my aikido friends, I proceeded to book a nice single room at the Asia centre of Japan and headed on a train into Tokyo centre. I took the limited express option which basically means it stops everywhere but it was clean, easy to navigate to and cheaper than the Keisei skyliner- ideal since i wanted more money to spend and wasn't on a time schedule. The tokyo tube system is a bit complicated since it's not all run by one company and certain lines in the same station m...

Arrival day

The ANA flight to Narita was pretty nice. There was no one in the middle seat, so there was plenty of room. The arrival at Narita was easy. We landed at 15:10 and by 15:50 I was on the airport limousine bus to Shinagawa. The bus took about 1.5 hours on the Higashi Kanto Expressway. The traffic got heavier around Urayasu-shi, on into the city. The bus dropped us off right in front of the Shinagawa Prince Hotel New Tower. I was staying in the Annex, but eventually found it, thanks to Tina's det...

Ticha krajina

Japonsko! Dnes rano som priletel do Japonska. :-) Cestou sem som v lietadle jedol same Japonske jedlo. Lufhansa nam dala moznost vybrat si zapadne, alebo japonske jedlo a tak som nevahal. A bolo naozaj vyborne.

Krajina vychadzajuceho slnka

Dnes rano som zistil, preco sa Japonsko nazyva Krajina vychadzajuceho slnka. Vychadza tu totiz, prosim pekne, o 4:30 rano. A o piatej je uz vsade svetlo a ludia v pohybe. Dnes som tiez pochopil, preco si Japonski turisti u nas vsetko fotia.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside..

... or outdoor cafe would be heaving with scantily clad people attempting to catch all available rays. Here in Japan there were 3 families, a couple and a lady and her dog, all in coats or jumpers - not a bikini or pair of sunglasses in sight! On our walk back we stopped by a Namco arcade in which we managed to spend 600Y on getting our photos taken in a comedy booth - all the instructions in Japanese too so we're pretty pleased with ...

On the move again

... this train was a slightly different model to the last one, with a more futuristic-looking nose. The two and a half hour trip soon whizzed by and we found ourselves a short subway ride and walk from our (cheaper still) hotel. Heading out in search of food, it seemed to be a little late in the day with a lot of places closed and in the midst of preparations for re-opening in the evening so we found ourselves in an interesting looking vegetarian place called 'beans', where ...

Our last day in Japan :(

... beer vending machine and I won the first game, Paul won the second, which worked out very nicely. It's not the same as Wii bowling at Dan and Jojo's with an audience everytime a 44 goes by! Finally we stumbled onto a really nice bar called Beer Cafe 7 - again no English spoken but we ended up with 2 beers, some deep fried pumpkin and a pizza = just what we wanted ! The hostel was a bit ...
