We all have different breakfasts today. Anna has nutritious pudding in her room. Elaine has her living fuel smoothie. Tom and Tyler go down to the buffet and decide not to have sukiyaki for breakfast. I head for the fresh smoothie store but instead stop at the 7 Eleven because I have 1000 yen ($10) coupons burning a hole in my pocket that I …

Last day in Japan

A travel blog entry by nikitravel on Oct 27, 2012

Getting there:
Left Nagasaki and travelled to Hakata on the local train, then Shinkansen transited at Shin-Osaka and finally arrived at Shinagawa. We stayed at Shinagawa for a night because we our flight is departing from Haneda Airport which we could get to easily from Shinagawa on the Keikyu Airport Express

Big day!

A travel blog entry by evaclapham on Nov 05, 2013

Left home at 3.30 am and finally arrived at shinagawa prince hotel about 10.30 pm. A big day! Had a few hours on the way in cairns, which gave us an opportunity to get some exercise before the 71/2 hours to Tokyo narita airport. Have to say that jetstar were very good and on time. No complaints.
Checked in and found our room, which could have …

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside..

... or outdoor cafe would be heaving with scantily clad people attempting to catch all available rays. Here in Japan there were 3 families, a couple and a lady and her dog, all in coats or jumpers - not a bikini or pair of sunglasses in sight! On our walk back we stopped by a Namco arcade in which we managed to spend 600Y on getting our photos taken in a comedy booth - all the instructions in Japanese too so we're pretty pleased with ...

On the move again

... this train was a slightly different model to the last one, with a more futuristic-looking nose. The two and a half hour trip soon whizzed by and we found ourselves a short subway ride and walk from our (cheaper still) hotel. Heading out in search of food, it seemed to be a little late in the day with a lot of places closed and in the midst of preparations for re-opening in the evening so we found ourselves in an interesting looking vegetarian place called 'beans', where ...

Our last day in Japan :(

... beer vending machine and I won the first game, Paul won the second, which worked out very nicely. It's not the same as Wii bowling at Dan and Jojo's with an audience everytime a 44 goes by! Finally we stumbled onto a really nice bar called Beer Cafe 7 - again no English spoken but we ended up with 2 beers, some deep fried pumpkin and a pizza = just what we wanted ! The hostel was a bit ...

It's OK but I wasn't expecting ripped linen

We had the basic and cheapest room. Walked into 80s and I think the linen is from that time too cause it was very thin and ripped. The room is very dated but clean. It didn't bother us much because we are only staying one night and need somewhere convenient to sleep. If we would stay more than one night, we will definitely stay in Shinjuku

Amazing hotel, not the best location though

The hotel itself was amazing. The room was comfortable clean and well equipped, the lobby was gorgeous and the staff was helpful.
But the Shinagawa station (which is a good 10 minutes walk from the hotel, no fun with heavy bags) doesn't really have many attractions for the traveler. The only thing I could find to do around the hotel was visit the Shinagawa aquarium- which was great.
