On the road again … this time for our annual Family Reunion in Corvallis, OR. We have several functions over the weekend starting Friday evening at 6pm with the Cousins Dinner in Salem OR. We left Friday June 21 after waiting for our truck parts (We were supposed to have them on the 14th, but they arrived late). Our original plans were to leave on Wednesday the 19th. So this makes for a long ...
... be just as easy as getting there...that was not to be.
About mile 6 I developed a 'ketch in my getalong'! That's what my grandmother used to say for odd and unusual aches and pains. My thighs started to burn and my right hip was SOOO sore. I began to fret, would I make it home? To add to my distress, the sky started to darken and clouds began to gather above me; there was a chill to the air. I put on my ...
... street would be blocked (below us) until noon. About 35 cars then had to turn around and head down the one way hill. Luckily everyone was in the spirit and no dents or crashes occurred. Finally, after heading back to the freeway and around the traffic, we found a spot to park and walked to the starting line. There were 35,000 participants this year, between the runs and walks - 15K, 8K, and 5K runs, a kids lap and finally, our walk, the ...
... all, is sometimes the best place to start. Descending into Portland was a surreal experience. The ever-present blanket of cumuli shrouded the city, but slowly dissipated to reveal Oregon's signature color: beautiful, lush, rich green. The verdant Willamette Valley and the mighty Columbia and Willamette Rivers with the majestic Cascade Mountain Range as backdrop took my breath away as if I was seeing it through new eyes. I ...
Decisions, decisions, decisions. What to take, what to sell, what to give away. Today I hit my bedroom pretty hard. Recycled years of old school notes and lesson plans. Put necessary clothing in my suitcase and duffel bags along with a book or two. Doesn't seem wise to cart too many books halfway around the world. Taking all my scarves ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Shilo Inn Salem
Great place to stay
Had a great stay at Shiloh Inn in Salem. Friendly staff, good service.
What a professional place
My husband and I just wanted to let you know that our stay at the Shilo Inn Suites-Salem was a breathe of fresh air when it comes to staying at a hotel. Every staff member was thoroughly professional and personable, the facilities were very nice, rooms beautiful. I just can't say enough. I want to go on vacation again just to go there and stay for a week!!!!!
Shilo is great
What a wonderful hotel. Clean, comfortable, great staff. Will route future trips via Salem just to stay there again.!
Shilo was way more than we expected
I'm from Gig harbor Washington and my wife and I were on our way to California last month. We Decided to stay at the Shilo inn in Salem Oregon for the night. What a great experience it was. The rooms were very beautiful, clean and spacious. We were made to feel like royalty for the night. If we weren't in such a hurry to get to California We would have stayed another night or two. The rooms were much nicer than the Hotel we stayed in down in California and those rooms were more than twice the price. We plan to come back again soon.
Excellent customer service
I was busy for the three full days I stayed there, but the hotel was relaxing, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff went out of thier way to accomidate me. Cheers.
I stayed at the Shilo on a Tuesday night, I just loved the homey atmosphere. The beds were great and I usually have problems sleeping in another bed besides my own. The only drawback was the pricing of the bottled water in the bucket at the front desk. But the long haired guy behind the counter was so helpful, not only did he agree about the ridiculous price but he told me about a convenience store two blocks away from the hotel where I could buy the water at three for the price of one at the hotel. Like I said homey atmosphere and very helpful staff. I would definately stay again.
Best customer service EVER!
I have always liked the Shilo Inn in Salem. I have been a business traveler and staying at the Shilo Inn Salem since 1999 when the General Manager there went out of his way to help me with my baggage. Now THAT is customer service. Other than the occasional comment card, I never wrote down my positive experiences.
This week I was in Salem to do business and of course, I stayed at the Shilo. Again, the General manager, I believe his name was Steve or Stan, helped me with my baggage. This is the best place to stay EVER! I have stayed at 5 diamond resorts before and I NEVER had the General Manager help me with my bags at those places where I spend $250 or more!
Mr. Shilo you have a customer for life!
Would stay there again!!
We were treated great at the Shilo Inn in Salem Oregon. All the facilities were clean and the staff very helpfull. We would stay there again and recommend it to our friends and family.
Shilo made my wedding
All of my out of town wedding guests stayed and LOVED IT!! Very friendly, and helpful staff. The breakfast is excellent, and everyone enjoyed relaxing in the spa or swimming in the hotel's very clean and sparkling indoor pool. The bonus is microwave and mini-fridge in the rooms. Popcorn and cookies at night, what a treat!!
Excellent service, value, & rooms.
I stayed 2 nights in january 2005. The staff is very friendly and receptive. The rooms were huge and clean. I found the staff to be very attentive and helpful when giving recommendations to area attractions and restaurants. The room had internet access and the hotel is located near everything, including the movie theater. There was a continental breakfast every morning at no extra cost. This hotel is definitely worth the money. It is situated far enough off the street that after a long drive from Olympia, WA, I was able to sleep very quietly on the big comfortable queen sized bed. I will definitely be staying here again!
