... called Mike. He is a forty something who is doing a four month tour of America. He talks a lot, but that's okay because he is actually pretty interesting. He is a councillor and a medium. God has talked to him twice apparently to get him on the right path and away from law. He is not crazy. We discussed quite a lot of things, including a project he is doing for sense impaired (deaf/blind etc) people that involves building their five internal senses to compensate. We ...

We are almost there! Tent trailer airing out one last time. Gonna make our bed, put all of the blankets and pillows in there and then close it up. Let me tell you, our tent trailer is not the typical tent trailers you think of. It is literally a bed and a floor, no kitchen, nothin'. Gonna be in the car for 2 months with my husband and 6 year old son. WE WILL ...

... Portland. What a beautiful garden! It is very different from the Japanese Garden which was spread over several acres in an out of town park. The Lan Su is one city block square, but an oasis from the noise and stress. This was my favorite of the two. It has grace and elegance with rhododendron, azalea, peonies and a variety of trees and other plants. Within the garden are a tea ...

Does Weather Matter?

A travel blog entry by traveljill

Our weather is strange this fall. Mornings can start out dark and wet and cold. And yet just after lunch, can switch 180 degrees and be warm and sunny and happy.

I've run the same train trip in sun vs. rainy vs. cold/cloudy, and by far, everyone is plain happier with warm and sunny (but of course, not too hot). I remember sitting all day in a cabin in ...

... of dust over the entire globe. After we did that, we started driving until we made it to Portland, Oregon. In Portland, we all made lunch and went and ate it at the park around the block. Then we started walking down the road and made it to the VooDoo doughnut shop. I got a doughnut with Oreo's and peanut butter, it was amazing!! After we got that, we got back on the RV and started driving towards Cannon Beach, ...

Sorry, this was not a great deal

I got a good rate, but the room showed its age. There were holes in my sheets. Everything in the room was looking very old and tired. The reception was quaint. The hotel is used as meeting rooms for lots of local events, unfortunately all the carpets in the hallway smelled of old dirty smoke. Maybe the previous tenants enjoyed it because they had a dog. I certainly would not stay here again. They were having plumbing problems and the water came out brown to orange, gross. We stayed three nights, as fas as I was concerned 3 nights too many.

The landscaping was very nice. They must have a good gardener, but this place needs a major overhaul.

    Our Stay Was Great!

My wife and I recently stayed in a suite for 6 nights. We found this Shilo very clean, quiet and comfortable. It was far enough away from the freeway to be quiet but close enough to be very convenient. We received a complimentary buffet each morning that was excellent and we found the restaurant for dinner excellent as well. The staff was very courteous and friendly. I recommend the Shilo Hotel / Portland to anyone looking for a clean and quiet hotel experience.

    Perfect in every way

I stayed at this hotel back in march for 3 nights. We had a room over looking the pool and fountain, it was beautiful. Just sitting on the balcony outside my room was watching the fountain and gozebo was a relaxation moment for me and my wife. to top it off the staff was very helpfull and friendly. This is the hotel to stay if you are traveling to Beaverton or Portland, make sure you ask for a room over looking the fountain and you will see what i mean

    People & Dog Friendly

We were very pleasantly surprised with The Shilo Inn in Beaverton. The staff were courteous and efficient. The decor was very tasteful. The room was one of the best we have ever had in, the view to the courtyard is the best in Portland. As you can tell, we recommend it very highly.

    Great Everything!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've stayed at my share of Portland hotels. You just can't go wrong at the Shilo Inn Beaverton. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is ultra-friendly. I even have a requested room on my profile so that every time I book there, I usually get the same room. It's just a queen room, but I like it, and the Shilo staff takes care of me.

    Great Hotel

My family stay here whenever they come to visit. The garden view rooms are lovely, and the pool in the summer is great for the kids. The Ginza restaurant was awful when they ate there earlier this year, so we didn't even try it this visit, but McCormicks is just up the road, and has delicious food.

    Comfortable at the Shilo

Overall, our stay at the Shilo Inn was very pleasant. The room was clean, spacious and quiet, with nice towels and amenities. The breakfast buffet was a delightful surprise with a variety of hot, freshly prepared foods. My only complaint is that what they advertised to be a mini-suite was actually a standard room with a small refrigerator and microwave oven in the corner. Once we got over our initial disappointment, we enjoyed our stay.

You get what you pay for!!

Okay, the price was very good, but.......The hallway to the rooms had a terrible odor. (even with the door to the outside open) The room had a large stain on the cieling from what looks like water damage. One of the phones didn't work. The breakfast was okay. The clear plastic tape holding the serving cart together was a little disturbing. I don't think I will stay there again.

Great service, comfortable rooms and excellent food.

I was very impress with the quality of service at Shilo Inn Beaverton. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The room was very clean and spacious. The complimentary hot breakfast in the morning was great. I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family.

    Great Hotel

This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in and I've spent many nights in a hotel room. The rooms are large. May have a view of the hotels beautiful courtyard with its fountain and gazebo. Most comfortable and I love the cigar friendly Sports Den Sports Bar!!! Whenever I travel to Portlnad, this is my home away from home.
