"Keep Portland WEIRD"

A travel blog entry by kwrona

"Keep Portland WEIRD" was an actual bumper sticker we saw drive up through Seattle and it's so perfect for this town! I've heard so many good things about Portland and they were all true. We stayed a bit out of town (because it's cheaper) but went in to south portland for dinner. We asked when we checked in for a good brewery, but I guess I should …

I am sure you all know the final out come of the game seeing as it was televised on ESPN. Just in case you missed the end, the final was unfortunately 1-10 South. Since you know what happened during the game, today I will tell you what happened behind the scenes. The day started off with the girls going down to the field for interviews with ESPN. …

... to Longview along the scenic banks of the river. We spent the afternoon and evening at a commercial RV park on the river so that we could do laundry and clean up a bit.

Saturday, we moved closer to David's daughter Jamie in Camas, WA to Paradise Point State Park. It is on the banks of the Lewis River, and here we met up with some friendly banana slugs... not the largest we've seen, but still as big as a small banana.

... headed to I-5 we stumbled upon a beautiful cluster of trees and old buildings that necessitated a stop at what turned out to be Willamette University, We spent about 20 minutes just walking around, taking pictures, and imagining what it would be like to be a student there. Finally ready we got back on the road for our last leg of the trip heading into Portland. The driving definitely let us know the big city was approaching! We of course made it safe and sound to our hotel and ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Shilo Inn Hotel & Suites Portland / Beaverton

Sorry, this was not a great deal

    from

I got a good rate, but the room showed its age. There were holes in my sheets. Everything in the room was looking very old and tired. The reception was quaint. The hotel is used as meeting rooms for lots of local events, unfortunately all the carpets in the hallway smelled of old dirty smoke. Maybe the previous tenants enjoyed it because they had a dog. I certainly would not stay here again. They were having plumbing problems and the water came out brown to orange, gross. We stayed three nights, as fas as I was concerned 3 nights too many.

The landscaping was very nice. They must have a good gardener, but this place needs a major overhaul.

    Our Stay Was Great!

    from

My wife and I recently stayed in a suite for 6 nights. We found this Shilo very clean, quiet and comfortable. It was far enough away from the freeway to be quiet but close enough to be very convenient. We received a complimentary buffet each morning that was excellent and we found the restaurant for dinner excellent as well. The staff was very courteous and friendly. I recommend the Shilo Hotel / Portland to anyone looking for a clean and quiet hotel experience.

    Perfect in every way

    from

I stayed at this hotel back in march for 3 nights. We had a room over looking the pool and fountain, it was beautiful. Just sitting on the balcony outside my room was watching the fountain and gozebo was a relaxation moment for me and my wife. to top it off the staff was very helpfull and friendly. This is the hotel to stay if you are traveling to Beaverton or Portland, make sure you ask for a room over looking the fountain and you will see what i mean

    People & Dog Friendly

    from

We were very pleasantly surprised with The Shilo Inn in Beaverton. The staff were courteous and efficient. The decor was very tasteful. The room was one of the best we have ever had in, the view to the courtyard is the best in Portland. As you can tell, we recommend it very highly.

    Great Everything!!!!!!!!!!!!

    from

I've stayed at my share of Portland hotels. You just can't go wrong at the Shilo Inn Beaverton. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is ultra-friendly. I even have a requested room on my profile so that every time I book there, I usually get the same room. It's just a queen room, but I like it, and the Shilo staff takes care of me.

    Great Hotel

    from

My family stay here whenever they come to visit. The garden view rooms are lovely, and the pool in the summer is great for the kids. The Ginza restaurant was awful when they ate there earlier this year, so we didn't even try it this visit, but McCormicks is just up the road, and has delicious food.

    Comfortable at the Shilo

    from

Overall, our stay at the Shilo Inn was very pleasant. The room was clean, spacious and quiet, with nice towels and amenities. The breakfast buffet was a delightful surprise with a variety of hot, freshly prepared foods. My only complaint is that what they advertised to be a mini-suite was actually a standard room with a small refrigerator and microwave oven in the corner. Once we got over our initial disappointment, we enjoyed our stay.

You get what you pay for!!

    from

Okay, the price was very good, but.......The hallway to the rooms had a terrible odor. (even with the door to the outside open) The room had a large stain on the cieling from what looks like water damage. One of the phones didn't work. The breakfast was okay. The clear plastic tape holding the serving cart together was a little disturbing. I don't think I will stay there again.

Great service, comfortable rooms and excellent food.

    from

I was very impress with the quality of service at Shilo Inn Beaverton. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The room was very clean and spacious. The complimentary hot breakfast in the morning was great. I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends and family.

    Great Hotel

    from

This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in and I've spent many nights in a hotel room. The rooms are large. May have a view of the hotels beautiful courtyard with its fountain and gazebo. Most comfortable and I love the cigar friendly Sports Den Sports Bar!!! Whenever I travel to Portlnad, this is my home away from home.
