Shilo Inn Suites Oceanfront Hotel
Travel Blogs from Newport
My day started at 5.30am and it involved washing the clothing we had worn the last 24 hrs. As said in my last blog, we got back from the casino about 1.45 and my nights sleep was not good. I woke up at 5.30am smelling smoke from the Casino. I got up, gathered all Jackie and my clothes from yesterday and took them to the laundry to …
... dinner we explored the area until we were convinced by several inebriated seagulls turned into men to rethink that plan. We went south on US-101, exploring our options for lodging. There were some vacancies still and several options, especially around Waldport. We ended up here at this small wayside park with the great sunset. We have a very cozy and compact campsite. We watched the sunset, played in the softest sand on the West Coast, and came back for a fire and ...
... the detour and reached Cape Meares from the south. Cape Meares, the first of the three capes, juts out into the ocean into a tip. The tip is capped off with a very old and very low lighthouse. It's light is elevated more by the rocky bluffs it stands upon. To the south of the cape is a huge mure colony offshore on rocks. To the south are sea stacks with natural arches shaped by eons of waves. One low rock was covered with California sea lions. They were ...
We moved the short distance here this morning, got a nice pull-thru site with full hookups, and Zach and I took off to walk on the beach after lunch.
Despite it being a cool and windy day, we thoroughly enjoyed sitting and watching the waves, and walking through the surf, taking pictures, watching the kites being flown by others on the beach and talking. So glad we moved here for the day!
... an original resort area from the early 20th century. Quite quaint. Think we have seen al we need to see now at Newport. Toured the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse which was only used for 3 years from 1871 as it was built in a poor position. A few changes to our itinerary necessary for the next couple of days due to inclement weather. Heading south rather than east to Klamath Falls, we aren't carrying snow chains, and the weather doesn't look good there. Two days of driving to get to ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Shilo Inn Suites Oceanfront Hotel Newport
The best in newport!!!
excelent view, nice BIG clean rooms with excelent service and hospitality. very friendly and accomidating. excellent value, and location. right on the beach, I went for a walk every morning and loved it. I stay at this shilo location yearly and will continue to do so. great rooms at great rates!
We had a nice stay at this hotel. The staff was very pleasant and brought us additional pillows right away when asked. The view of the ocean from the room was wonderful, and having a microwave and refrigerator in our room was great. The hotel has two indoor pools, one of which is a three-foot wading pool, which our five-year old daughter loved. Only two complaints: The tub could have used a good cleaning, and our room was near the lounge, so the music and base were a little loud as we were going to bed. If you are staying over the weekend, I would request a room away from the lounge to avoid the noise.
I grew up in Oregon and had been fed a steady diet of radio and TV ads extolling the virtues of Shilo Inn and their "affordable excellence." My parents had always told me how much they loved the local chain, but my first trip to a Shilo Inn proved disappointing. My huspand and I spent the last night of our honeymoon at the Shilo Inn in Newport. When we called to book the room, we were told we would have a 2nd floor, ocean view room. When we arrived, just several hours after booking, we were told that we could not have a second floor room. Instead, we were placed in a ho-hum first floor room. Our "view" most mostly of tall SUVs in the adjacent parking spaces, not of the ocean. (The next morning when the traffic cleared out, we could see the ocean, though.) I advise you to request and confirm a 2nd floor room as if your life depends on it. The room was somewhat small, but clean. The afternoon sun pooring in through the large window made the room uncomfortably warm, and the A/C was underpowered to cool the room. In a word, "mediocre."
Generic, if you like Wonderbread, this is for you
The rooms are a bit overpriced for what you get. I should admit I haven't stayed in other hotels in Newport, but I was surprised at the Shilo's spartan rooms. The staff is friendly, and the room was clean, but for the $169 we paid, I expected a bit more than two beds, a microwave and a fridge. It would also be nice to have an electronic key, for security reasons, and a better control of the room temperature than just opening a tiny window and having to ask for a fan. Overall, there must be better options in a town of this size.
Shilo Inn, Newport,Oregon:
rooms very small and spartan, beautiful views from community porch. good beach access, except a lot of stairs, resturants expensive, food average, quiet seaside setting, very friendly staff.
Affortable, comfortable ocean front
Beautiful ocean view of magnificent coastline. The staff was friendly. The reasonable priced for what you get. The view out of the large windows was not very clear for some reason. I don't know if they were weather beaten or just dirty so it gave kind of a blurred view. You had to look out of the smaller windows underneath to get a crisp view. Overall, comfortable. Newport is a great place to visit with lot's to do and see.
Pros=excellent views and location. helpful and friendly staff. clean rooms, albeit circa 1970 style.
A wonderful place to stay
What can I say. The views were breath taking. The hotel staff was great. Rooms were nice and comfortable with a fridge and microwave. The only thing I did not like were the flat hard pillows, but the sound of the ocean at night made me forget about them. I woked in Newport for a week. The food is to die for and some of the most beautiful coast line I have ever sceen. I will return again and again and stay with Shilo Resorts.DA, Angel Fire, New Mexico
Affordable ocean view,beach access
The rooms are very nice with all the amenities. There is a resturaunt and lounge with a great ocean view that serves very reasonably priced meals. Great location and close to downtown Newport.
I am Sold On Shilo Inns
