    ... The parade is accompanied by musicians in traditional Japanese costumes, quite an interesting and colorful event. The elephant made of paper is very large and being pulled by the boys with help of adults. We watch them parade around the Yubatake and go up the old, stone staircase to the Temple. We take a closer look at the Yubatake where the water gushes down day in day out, 4.000 liters of hot water per minute!

    ... Shinkansen station. Friendly young man who tries his very best to speak English with us. We are given a Subaru Impreza. He kindly sets the GPS to "English" and enters the phone number of the hotel where we stay tonight. In Japan you enter phone numbers into a GPS system and no street names. Leaving Nagano on the tollway and stopping at the first, and as it turns out also the only rest stop for a quick bite. The sun is out and it is 23C....! Soon the ...

    Today was the longest day (both in terms of miles covered and travel time) we had planned for our whole trip. We figured a long travel day earlier in the trip (while we still had energy) would be a little bit easier, while still making sure we fit in all the amazing things we wanted to see during this trip!

    Its a 4 hour bus ride from Tokyo to Nagano. We take the bus over the train, as the Shinkansen is not cheap, and i have never driven on the roads in Japan, so it will be a good experience. The bus is as punctual as the train and departs on time to the minute. The drive has plenty of beautiful country side and snow capped alps.
