The Shark Lady travels on

From Kala Pattar we returned to Lobouche, this time staying the night in the very lovely Sherpa lodge. The day stayed clear, and sunset was spectacular, with Lhotse glowing gold like molten metal. The weather held the next day, and I have to say I have never brushed my teeth in nicer surroundings! By this stage washing was becoming a rarity, though I was glad of my deoderant wipes. Any body odours were masked by the fact that the lodges were all heated with yak dung fires, causing all our bel...

... vans and we were all laughing each time someone else tried to squeeze on.<br>This place has to be the dirtiest, smelliest, noisiest place I have ever been. People harass you all the time for money and to buy their wares. The men cough up and spit out phlegm in the streets and there are so called butchers with slabs of meat lying out in the open with flies swarming around.I have never encountered so much filth in any of my travels and it quite turns your stomach. lessons learnt!

I thought about moving hotels to the Mandap Hotel where I managed to find free wireless internet whilst I was eating lunch. They showed me a room the same price as mine and also promised to put in a fan but I like the roof garden here and I sort of feel like it may be a case of "better the devil you know..." so I will keep my room here as they have been so friendly. I had problems with the water again tonight but the guy came and sorted it and I managed to get a hot shower!<br ...

... pass the time before dinner, some of us hiked up to one of the hillside villages to just take a gander. We crossed the river on a suspended cable bridge ( I have no idea what I'm talking about) and wandered around the town and continued to hike up one of the hills. Nepali children are incredibly friendly and it was no surprise that a small mob followed us on our hike. The nice thing about these village children is that they didn't shout " Namaste! 100 rupees!
