Three countries in a Day

7-45am. We left Vienna at this ungodly hour, on a day that promised blue skies and warm weather. Our bus headed down Highway 2 towards Graz, a southern city in Austria. We saw the famous Vienna woods in the distance but the rest of the scenery was green fields and small farms. After a brief toilet stop we continued across the border into Slovenia and stopped for lunch at Maribor, the second largest city in this country. The main tourist attraction here was a 400 year old grape vine, underwhel...

konverents vol 2

Tagasiteel saali õnnestub hr Merlottiga vahetada eestikeelseid viisakusi. Konverentsil asi ei parane. Lõunaks okupeerivad meid ingl...

I need a HUGE salad and some vegetables and fruit.

Speaking of fruit, I have finally mastered the label dispenser in the produce section so I am self sufficient now to buy bananas which for some reason I am still craving. Funny how that is. I won't go near them at home. I guess my body is rebelling against three meals of day of bureks.

The bus ride out of Sarajevo went through some beautiful ...

Zagreb (or: The Land of Giants)

... the plane. Until then, you're supposed to sit in the waiting area outside of the security area where you're free to get magazines, a bite to eat, or go to the restroom. Once you go through security, you're stuck in a cramped, smoky waiting area and they won't let you go back out to use the restroom. Croatia is a land of giants. At 6'2", Jeremy looked downright average next to the other men on the plane ...

A Quickie through the Croatian Capital

... 10 minutes of the climb, we were chatting and hiking at an easy pace. Then, the road became 60 degrees incline dirt path. oops. While Dave went in front to scout out the road, I lead the way with my arms fully extended to the back, my mom and dad hanging off of each hand. I dragged them about 200 meters up. We were slipping and sinking into rotted wood and leaves. Well, you could imagine this was not what they had in mind for ...

A fistfull of dinars

... sprint towards the 1.15 as the conductors whistle blows. We clamber aboard, still holding our bundle of Euros just as the train starts to pull out. We peel off our backpacks and slump onto our seats, exhausted but still riding some kind of adrenaline high. Zagreb starts to speed by, we are finally getting the hell out of the Balkans, without the burden of thousands of unuseable dinars, heading towards the comfort and familiarity of Jane´s family home in Slovakia.

We hiked up a bit to get a beautiful view, and really enjoyed our day! Our taxi driver was great, and gave us some great info on the way up and back (about an hour each way) He was very friendly, and gave us great tips, info, etc! Croatia, the land of...well...hmm.

... is either green or yellowing. Leaves are falling, and the air has that color of cold in it already. It is magical to be in such a place at this time of year. Okay, so maybe it isn't that unremarkable here. It is a lot more comfortable, certainly, but no less awesome than anywhere I've seen so far. So I will continue to enjoy it as I make my way slowly back to somewhere where I can get to Morocco in three weeks. Goodbye everyone till next time...
