But, there is so much poverty and homelessness, especially in the big cities. It is sad to see so many people with walking frames and sticks, especially youngish people, with diseases or injuries which would be rectified with a decent medical system. The disabled are well catered for, and military veterans are respected more than we are used to.

... from ND that I hadn't seen for a long time and even some from the Dublin fall semester program whom I had already greatly missed.

All the events surrounding the game were very well done. The pep rally on South Beach, the free Flo Rida concert on South Beach, and the obvious Notre Dame majority made Miami an unforgettable experience for me. Unfortunately we convincingly lost this game, but that didn't matter too much with everything else that happened. We'll win it next year ...

... we have seen, put Vietnamese new year display to shame! Afterwards, a lot of people were clearly going out to the bars along the strip, but not really dressed for the occasion and unable to afford more than one drink in any of those places, we went back to the hostel. The beachfront was cool to walk through though, bar after bar after bar, all full of young, rich people drinking cocktails, with all sorts of incredible cars parked outside! ... water and supports endangered species, so now the area is a national conservation area, however the water levels are of constant concern. Our air-boat skipper was a lovely gruff old wild looking chap with only one tooth! We managed to see quite a few alligators, a bluebird, stork and turtle. Tom was quite disappointed in the tour as the water levels are so low the area was made into a channel with the everglades either sides ...
