It's been a wonderful trip ! I love traveling for the experience and broadening of horizons. I must say 'horizon' has been redefined on this one. But it's definitely time to head home. 4:30 am is a challenging departure time.
On final approach to Virginia, German tourists took photos
of the Potomac River from the airplane window. I know that place !
Sooo good to find my family waiting at Dulles :))) !! Great trip, but home is the best destination !
... the tour contact, who drove me to the luxurious, if a bit ostentatious Sofitel, though that made it fit into the entire neighborhood. I don't usually stay at the big international chains, so this felt like a treat. Liked the flat screen tv over the bathtub !
I arrived a day early so as to have a day to rest up, and adjust to 9 hr time difference. Most of my entertainment for the day was watching the lobby action of a UN conference they were hosting.

As i was running a little behind on the time i told my host i would arrive, we caught a cab back to the hostel, i picked up my stuff, and off i was to my new hosts house in Arlington, Virginia.I arrived at Vladimir's place and was greeted by him and his girlfriend Katie, and his 2 housemates. I set my stuff down and then they took me out drinkin at a local bar in Arlington that specialises in craft ...
... in the dome. It was under restoration but you could still see the majority of them. They were beautiful. Someday, I just know my Mom's art work will be admired somewhere like that. After the capitol we drove to Ford's theater.
One of the key events in Mr. Dehning's life that set him off on the path of being a history teacher was when he visited Ford's theater as a child back in 1812. Just kidding... about the 1812 bit... ;) ...
Another early day for us, up at 4am as we are off to Washington for the day and its a 3.5 hour train ride from Penn station to get there. Our train leaves at 5:30am and have to be there 30 minutes before so caught a cab downtown (hahaha starting to talk like a NYC local).
Heaps of people at the station including a lot of homeless, I suppose you don't need a ticket to get down into the station, its warm and safe as there are quite a lot of people ...
