I spent a great couple of nights last weekend at THE BAR. Its a bar in Miyazaki above the Pauls Smith Clothes shop not far from the main Miyazaki Station.@The owner, Sean, from New Zealand has a great little establishment there. Its only been open for less than a year but its the night spot of choice for all the foreign community in town and most of the Japanese people too if the crowd on Friday and Saturday nights ...

... most spectacular setting on the top of a mountain. Could see the distant volcano (which was thankfully quiet). Even had deer come visit while we were in the outside onsen. Made a successful (thanks to the GPS) trip to our hotel in Miyazaki. Got on the JR train yesterday and toured south to Obi City where they have a city of old wooden houses and a Samari castle. Interesting. Today we head north. Just a quick entry for now.

... that so much of what we are able to do today is due to things that are our of our control. Of course as happy as I am to be home there are aspects of our trip that I will miss. We got to see new things and new people every day, you can't say that for cube life! We got to see how they grow crops from Tanzania to Japan. We got to see what school's look like from Malawi to Nepal. We got to see religious customs ...

... and got as south as the Cape Toi before having to turn around and head back up to Miyazaki. ... the days in Japan have a nasty hook to them, and suddenly it's 3:30pm, which doesn't sound late, but sunset is by 5:30, which, when densely cloudy, means dark by 5:45. The map has contours, but not very good detail, so we find too late that the last 20km is not a cruise, but an uphill grind, at 8-10 kph, and suddenly bang, it's going to be dark before we get where we're going. Ok! I made it to Japan, however at the airport I was quite surprised to see 20 rotarians with a HUGE banner welcoming us to Japan. I was not in any shape to meet anyone, but I didn't have a choice. We were quickly shuffled off to our Hotel where the local Rotarians had dinner waiting on us. We met our host families that we will stay with starting Monday Night.
