... for school field trips and usually the boys like it more than the girls. I thought the grounds of it a little odd, not because of all of the cannons, which one might expect, but because the cannons are intermixed with short trees that are groomed into conical shapes, irregularly spaced about the place. I did not get near the Arc du Triomphe, but it is beautiful in the distance with a flag waving in the center. I’m told the tomb of the unknown ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States 3beansabroadSo i didn't really plan to go to Richmond, but was forced to spend two hours th**e when my Greyhound bus was late coming in from Washington DC and I missed my connection by 5 minutes.

I put my bag in the line-up for the gate, so as to get myself a good window seat when the bus finally arrived, and sat down to do some reading. I had already been th**e for a good hour or so when a lady came and sat a couple of seats away from me. I ...

Richmond, Virginia, United States leafmold... couple bars and played "The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down" five times on the jukebox and we sang every word like it was 1865. We became the hit of the party after asking the bartender to turn it up and to put on the Yankees-Red Sox Game.
We hit the road early in the morning and knew we were going to have a good day when we read signs that said we were entering "Goochland". Next stop...Western Virginia.
Richmond/ Mt. Vernon, Virginia, United States matusz... to change, pack up and head out!

We were finally on the bike and headed south towards Cary, North Carolina to visit Luba’s family at about 12pm.

The ride south was very pleasant. I really enjoy riding on small highways with really tall trees along both sides of the highway. It just seems like a much more peaceful ride. It’s so much different from the west coast riding where there a lot of open space.
Richmond, Virginia, United States hawgboundSoo one of the research program coordinators thought it was a great idea to take the interns to Kings Dominion, an amusement park. The interns from this area seemed hyped up about it, so I was excited as well.

Kings Dominion is about an hour and 15 minutes from Charlottesville, past Richmond, I think. People talk about how they go to Richmond to shop or see a movie (because Charlottesville clearly offers none of ...
Doswell, Virginia, United States sojanet... out Colonial Williamsburg. I was unimpressed. Watching people in historical costumes alternate between texting and bad acting isn't worth $40 to me. But the buildings were nice, and it was a pleasant little town to stroll around. But at no point did I feel I had been transported back to the 18th century. There's something less than authentic about vending machines with $3 bottles of water and ads announcing "Ye Must Be Thirsty. Quencheth It You Scallywag!" I ...
Richmond, Virginia, United States dane... away from the hole until we could get the repair done. We used our trusty plastic pellet gun (totally useless except for stress relief) to scare them away from the back deck and the front roof. Additionally, we resorted to a squirrel trap cage in the attic, two squirrel traps on the deck, and "tainted" peanut butter on the deck --out of desperation. Whoever is to win the war remains to be determined...tune in at the end of our trip to find the result.
Richmond, Virginia, United States lstoneham... 3 families in particular that we had talked to the most in Fairfax, so we enjoyed finding them again at the assembly and feeling like we actually knew somebody. So Saturday night we get home and notice that our neighbors now have an extra car that has joined them. Then on Sunday morning the man left really early, by himself, all dressed up and carrying a lunch bucket. Hmmmm.... What a great assembly. While we've tried to make all the meetings, traveling has made ...
