Momentarily in Moscow

A travel blog entry by choyt1427

Before I tell you about my brief bout in Moscow I must tell you about the journey to get to Moscow. On Thursday evening I received an email from my travel agent telling me that there had been a schedule change, my flight to Moscow would now be leaving two hours later than originally scheduled. Well, first thing Friday morning I checked in with the …

Moscow, Victory Day

A travel blog entry by jmsnowd

May 9, Moscow Victory Day We were very lucky to be in Moscow during Victory Day. This is when Russia celebrates the victory over Nazi Germany. It's a huge holiday for Russia where they not only celebrate the victory but also honor those who have fallen in war and are veterans of many other wars. For the first time since Glasnost, Moscow is having a …

Tourists don't feel welcome in Russia's capital!

In the late afternoon we visited the State Historical Museum in Red Square. They had some interesting-looking displays, then again, we were hindered by the fact that we can't speak or read any Russian!

Trans-Siberian train! Moscow-Novosibirsk

Our second class four berth cabin was comfortable for two, but if anyone else was to get on, we would be pretty cramped.

After a nap for a few hours, we had dinner and enjoyed the view out of the window. Everything is under about 2" of snow and the silver birch trees are looking pretty majestic!
It got to about 11pm and everyone in our carriage seem to have gone to sleep, so we did too. It proved ...

Moscow- Old and New

He spent the rest of the day a little out of it, which concerned me, but being in Russia and not sure what the medical care situation was, we decided to just keep monitoring him and only go to a doctor if he seemed to get worse. He turned out to be fine, but it was a little scary for a bit.

    Good location, terrible wifi

The Sheraton Palace hotel is in a good central location in Moscow. A bit of a walk to the Kremlin, but doable. While wif is free, it is also basically non existent. It barely worked the two days I was there. Very difficult if you are there on business, as I was. The breakfast buffet is lovely though, if you have time to enjoy it.

Very pleased with the Sheraton Palace

I just returned from Moscow for a long weekend stay and was very pleased. I made the reservations online directly through the hotel. They provided the visa support documents and answered my questions via email very promptly. They also arranged transportation from Domodedovo to the hotel. I saved some money by booking over a weekend and a delightful breakfast was included. The room was a good size, and the hotel was extremely accomodating providing a rollaway bed for our daughter. The staff was friendly and spoke English. I would definitely stay there again if I ever return to Moscow. It was a very good location.

    Decent enough.

Stayed at the hotel for 1 night before catching the train. If staying at a business hotel of this nature I've normally stayed at Hiltons, so I can't compare it to others in the Sheraton family.

I got a three nights for two deal for the weekends so it was truly value for money. For a hotel this quality $200 per night is great in moscow. Weekdays were too high.

    Happy at the Sheraton Palace

I just stayed at the Sheraton Plalace Hotel in Moscow last week

    Great experience

Top notch hotel - rooms, lobby and restaurant are all impeccably maintained. Property is modern, updated and very clean. Service is attentive, thoughtful and welcoming. Staff is very helpful with those who do not speak Russian. Good location and good value considering how expensive Moscow is. Good stay for leisure and business stays, family friendly. This property is highly-recommended by us and we plan to return.

Good amenities but not great value

Found the Sheraton Palace a comfortable haven in cold and non-English speaking Moscow. Very nice staff, all with super English language skills. Good help with booking restaurants. Super comfortable beds and very quiet rooms. Had a snafu with a car the hotel booked for us that was late, driver got lost, almost ran out of gas, you get the picture. Location is average - - 30 min walk to Kremlin, etc. Dings on the hotel: breakfast is weak but was included in my rate, other food in the hotel looked very average, high speed access very expensive. Would only stay here again if rate was lower (paid $220) and couldn't find other good business hotel.

    I'll be back again!

What a delightful place to stay! Convenient location, outstanding accommodations, and a friendly staff which goes all out to make you feel right at home. The concierge gave me excellent advice on haggling with the vendors on the Arbat. The buffet servers smiled and kept the wonderful breakfast food coming. One damp evening the staff even brought me a fan so I could keep my window open and enjoy the sound of Moscow in the rain. My favorite character, though, was the very serious looking man in a dark suit who turned suddenly to me with a goofy grin and asked me "How do you think I do at speaking English?" Going by US standards, the Sheraton Palace appears to be very expensive - but Moscow is a very expensive place to stay and the Sheraton Palace is actually an excellent value. So much so, in fact, that when I return to Moscow next summer I am definitely staying there, even though I will have to pay for it myself this time!

Awesome hotel if you read this review

I stayed at this hotel beginning of August, 2005. They advertise as a businessmans hotel, and they live up to it in every way. First - if you are going to be in Moscow as a strict tourist with or without a family, and want Russian charm, a sweet smile at every turn or a concierge that sits around all day ready to suggest nice places to let your kids play on the swings, this hotel may not be for you. They are all business, ready to respond to every need with precise actions from everyone at the front desk who suggested transport, stores nearby etc. My requests were all handled professionally and immediately. The room was very modern and nicely appointed, large enough with a well laid out bathroom. Always impeccably clean. The elevators are in their own separate vestibule so even a room right near the elevators will not hear them as the hallway is so wide. There are no views to speak of. The hotel is located a 10 minute walk from 2 different metro stations covering 3 lines as well as an awesome 24 hour supermarket. The hotel says they are a 20 minute walk from Red Square - I'm young and walk very fast and it took me 30 minutes, but the walk is straight down one street and very easy.

Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!

Myself and my fiancť stayed in the Sheraton Palace Hotel, Moscow in August 2003 and it was a wonderful experience all-round.

Firstly, the staff were very helpful in all matters.

Secondly, the food was beautiful, particularly the breakfast buffets which had a large, varied selection of delicious foods of which you could eat as much as you liked.

Thirdly, the beds were extremely comfortable with the softest bed linen I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing!

I would highly recommend this hotel for a very comfortable and luxurious stay.

Great place to stay, though... do not go to the bar!!!

This new hotel is definitely above average and the service is excellent. The rooms are fashionably designed, though  art works look more like students projects Still, the overall room quality is exceptional. The staff is more than helpful, though they all look stiff  never smiling The biggest discontent was the café  Mozart . The staff there are unprofessional, unskilled and every menu choice was a great disappointment! Do not eat/drink there! Would recommend staying; just try to avoid any unpleasant experience at  Mozart .
