Historical Traveler Reviews of Sheraton Oceanfront Virginia Beach
Very Dissatisfied
from A TripAdvisor Member
I found this hotel to be very disappointing, particularly from a housekeeping standpoint. The first two rooms we were checked into were occupied. When we finally did get a room, we found many minor issues, such as the sink backing up througout the day, leaving a disgusting black residue, the Pay Per View did not work, no laundry bag for bathing suits and no bath mat. The hallways were badly littered and there were several trays of dirty dishes there for hours. We heard others complaining about similar issues and not having their room made up until late in the day. The pool area was filthy with trash and discarded cigarette butts and very seldom ever had towels, despite a sign telling you not to bring room towels into the pool area. On my second day there, I had to skim the pool myself at 11 am to get hundreds of dead bugs out of the shallow area so my daughter could swim. Staff members walked by and observed me doing this, but never offered any assistance. On two occassions I ordered Mai Tai cocktails, but neither bartender knew how to make them, even though this is an oceanfront hotel portraying itself as a resort. And the list goes on.
Clean but small rooms, staff very friendly

We stayed at the Sheraton Oceanfront for 4 nights the first week in June 2004. The staff was very friendly, and located directly on beach (very clean beach, and surprisingly uncrowded). The parking was behind some shops across the street from the hotel, which was a pain, but they had free valet parking and it was really nice to call down before we left the room and it to be waiting for us when we got down, but a pain when late at night you need to get something out. The hotel was still going under renovations so the hallways looked awful...like an abandoned building...but the rooms were finished. They were very clean, with new clean carpeting, and new bedding...but the rooms were tiny. We were tripping over each other. The only mirror was in the tiny bathroom, and was steamy during and after showers, so to do my hair or makeup I had to do it in the reflection of the tv, because my husband and sons still had to shower, and it just felt cramped. The restaurant food okay, but did have great views of atlantic ocean. All in all it wasn't bad, had an indoor and outdoor pool, small fitness center and direct beach access, and most importantly the actual room was clean.

My husband and I had wonderful time in Virginia Beach. This was a good time to go. Not crowded and the weather was great. This was are first time there, and will go again. We were advise of the construction there when we made our reservation. We thought it was not bad at all. We check in and receive one of the new decorated rooms with their new beds. We were please with our view from our balcony. The staff was friendly and very helpful in giving us directions to where we want to go. The location of hotel on the strip, suit us just fine. You can walk the street or the broadwalk. Everything there was clean and security was visible. We recommend this hotel and area for families.
The Worst EVER
from A TripAdvisor Member
The worst experience ever. Construction constantly, which was never told to us when we made the reservation. Room was full of mildew and smell was unbearable. New room was filthy, as was balcony. Ended up checking out after first night and moving to Marriott Courtyard...far superior and worth the extra money. This is my second, and last, terrible experience with any Sheraton. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Excellent experience

I visited the Sheraton in late September, 2001. Prior to that I visited Viriginia Beach in 1973, 74, 75, and 77 so my visit was rather nostalgic.
I had a reservation at another hotel, but the beach construction and noisy air conditioner there made it impossible for me to stay. I remembered the Sheraton being built in 1973 so I dropped by. They gave me a wonderful rate on a beachfront room that was absolutely gorgeous.
During my stay, we had a power failure, and I was impressed by the fact the the elevators and door locks were still operative with emergency backup power. The staff was wonderful, the indoor and outdoor pool relaxing and delightful. I had a wonderful time at the Sheraton and would gladly return.
This was a Sheraton?

This hotel is not worthy of the Sheraton brand. The room was trashed.
The carpet was filthy. There was visibile dust/dirt in the corners and on the walls. The beds had massive sags. When we complained, we were told this was all they had. The restaurant was filthy, the tables had crumbs all over them. This place is a two star dive at best!
Great hotel - Sheraton Oceanfront

Completely impressed with this hotel. Staff was extremely efficient. Request for a higher floor was granted immediately, just as request for a late check out. More important, the room was clean and neat - especially for an oceanfront lodging. However, do not rent bikes at Bonnie's Bike Rental next door. That business is unscrupulous and she is only out to get your money. Will charge you late charges for 5 mins !
Great Time At the Sheraton

We had a great experience at the Sheraton. They allowed us to check-in three hours early so we could enjoy the beach early. The room was nice and the staff was really wonderful, especially with our children. This hotel has both an indoor and outdoor pool, which was nice when we wanted to swim but wanted to stay out of the sun. Only thing I would recommend would be to avoid the middle floors. People would bring a lot of stuff on the elevators, so people on those floors would have to wait awhile to get an elevator that wasn't too crowded.
