Charleston, South Carolina, United States thedoyles... After inspecting the area for a couple of hours I caught the bus back to the motel at 1pm and made it to the bus station in time to catch the 3:30 bus out, exactly 24hrs after i had arrived. Although my stay was short I think we may have a new contender for my favorite place yet, due to the friendliness of the people, the atmosphere, the bars/restaurants, the weather etc, i could have easily stayed a week or so there, even though it is a small place Charleston certainly is very charming.

The carpenter was especially interesting - he was originally from England and looked as though he had practiced his craft all his life. We made it back in time for a late afternoon tea but skipped dinner for a very early night in our high, extremely comfortable king-sized bed.

My husband always plays Old Lang Syne on his trumpet at midnight and we didn't see any reason to spare the good people of Charleston, so he played! We played a championship game of cards the next morning before cleaning up and taking off for Cleveland. Not needing to rush on New Year's day, we stayed over in Beckley, West Virginia and arrived home on Tuesday.
