Historical Traveler Reviews of Sheraton National Arlington

Great, just don't count on the shuttle

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is in a good location. The beds are great (sweet sleeper pillowtop), but the ever important shuttle service to the metro and airport is unreliable at best. My wife and I were actually stranded at the Pentagon City shuttle stop at 11:20 pm. The shuttle is supposed to pick up there at 15 and 45 past the hour with the last pick-up scheduled for 11:15pm. We were at the stop at 11:05 and by 11:20 I called the hotel to see where the shuttle was and I was informed that I had "missed" the 11:15 pick-up. We obviously had not missed the pick-up because we had been there since 11:05. The shuttle finally showed up. We were lied to by the driver as to the reason why they were so late. After speakiing with management we were given a free night. The shuttle problems continued throughout our stay with varying degrees of severity. The shuttle is vital to the success of this location and they are dropping the ball! If you have time sensitive plans don't stay here as the shuttles run in a nonchalant manner, when they run.

Great Hotel, Great Location

I recently came to DC with my husband and two kids and stayed at the Sheraton national. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated, the restaurante reasonable and great for a quick meal on the way out, and the hotel offers easy access to the mall, pentagon, and the rest of the usual tourist attractions in Washington DC and Virginia. I will definitely stay again the next time I am in the area.

Good deal, great service, nice views

from Bunty2772
We stayed at the Sheraton for 3 nights with during the first week of October. I booked my tickets on hotwire and when I found out that I was booked into the Sheraton, I was worried since I had a previous unhappy experience with a Sheraton in Houston, TX. Anyways, we were initially given a room in the 3rd floor and the window faced the roof of another building. I requested the front desk for a room with a view and they immediately checked us into one on the 10th floor with a great view of the Capitol and the Washinton Monument. The room service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. The only drawback to this experience was the $16 per night fees for the parking. I thought that was way too expensive. But overall, staying in the Sheraton National was a wonderful experience.

Great Hotel

I visited the Washington, D.C. area recently and stayed at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, VA. The hotel was very nice, the rooms were nice and clean and the service was amazing. I highly recommend this hotel.

Good room, don't use the Internet

from Dewitt_traveler
We stayed in the Sheraton National for three nights in late July-early August of 2004. The staff and room were excellent. While impossible to walk anywhere, there was a free hotel shuttle to the metro station in Pentagon City every half hour. We didn't eat in the hotel because the prices were much higher than restaurants in Pentagon City. Broadband Internet is only available in the Business Center which is very expensive. I used my laptop at a connection which listed $12.95 for 24 hours. Not only was I not allowed to reconnect within a 24 hour period without an additional charge, but my credit card was billed for $22.59.

Not Worth The Money

I recently spent four nights at the Sheraton National in Arlington and found it to have some problems. Our reservation was for four adults, non-smoking, but when we arrived tired & hungry after a six hour drive we were taken to a cramped basement room with one queen bed. We complained to the front desk and were told the only other rooms available were 'smoking'. Luckily the room we ended up with had no noticible tobacco odor. Other problems we encountered were ants in the room, a staff that seemed uninformed & unable to give a correct answer about even a simple thing like restaurant hours, poorly stocked vending & ice machines, and a non-stop throng of conventioners on cell phones crowding the lobby. The food in the restaurant was good but very expensive. As for location, it's very close to the Arlington National Cemetary, the Pentagon, and a great mall in nearby Pentagon City. We could see the Washington Monument from our 7th floor room and a taxi ride to the White House took less than 10 minutes in good traffic. But don't plan on walking anywhere since the hotel is boxed in by bustling highways. You'll need a taxi or a train to go anywhere. I probably wouldn't stay at this Sheraton again. I would look for something right in DC or at least in Pentagon City.

What a PHENOMENAL Staff!!

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Sheraton National January 8-10, 2004! Our room was extremely nice, all of the facilities were great, but what REALLY made the stay fantastic was the staff.

There was not a soul who didn't go out of their way to make our time there superb. There was a smile on every face and an eagerness to please in every staff member, no matter what his or her job! We have stayed at many fine hotels and resorts, but never have we encountered hotel personnel better than at the Sheraton National!

More pluses than minuses

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Sheraton National Hotel is an excellent value with more pluses than minuses. The price is hard to beat. I paid $42 a night through Priceline.com, and saw rates for $51 a night through Expedia. Add $16 a night for parking. The hotel is in an out-of-the-way location in Arlington. If you dont have a car, the hotel provides a free shuttle to the nearest Metro station. That could be a problem if youre a night owl; the last shuttle pick up is at 11 p.m. After that, youll have to call a cab. In addition, there are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity (except for an Ethiopian place down the block). So if you want a late-night snack youre stuck with the too-expensive restaurant and bar ($9.95 for a shot of bourbon!) The staff is very courteous, but has limited knowledge of the sites in the area. Make sure you double-check anything they tell you If you dont mind the location, this is a very fine hotel for the money. If you want to be closer to the DC action, look elsewhere.

I expected more!

Just returned from a 3 day stay at the Sheraton National. I was not very impressed. The hotel was packed with church convention goers as well as reunion parties. Very busy to say the least. The rooftop hotel was a JOKE. Talk about filthy and TINY. The sundeck was no better. The location was not desirable since it's in Arlington and you have a ways to go to downtown DC. Best part: They wave the $16.00 overnight parking for guests. And one other thing, we were on a floor with a tour group from Latin America and they did not stop making noise all night. I finally had to call the front desk to have them send security. I would not recommend this hotel for family travelers. It's more for business and quick in and out. Next time, I plan to stay in DC. YOu can't beat the convenience of it. Their elevators were extremely SLLLOOOOW too.

Great Deal

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is a fantastic deal at the price we paid. There is a free shuttle to the Pentagon and the metro station near a mall. It takes abt 10 min to reach downtown by the metro. The rooms are cozy and nicely decorated. The only complain is that we were given single bed rooms despite having called in advance to ask for double bed rooms. However, the front desk gave us addional bed at no extra cost. We were quite upset but there wasn't anything we could do as the hotel was fully booked for the Memorial Day weekend. Anyway we were given free breakfast for 1 day (we stayed 3 nites) after numerous calls to the front desk.
