A loooong day - Bromo to Bali

... But at least we were in Bali. It was 9 pm, so any hope of getting there at a decent hour had vanished. This time, we did manage to catch some sleep, and by the time we woke up, we had just about 45 minutes to go. By this time, Caroline and I had shared our plans for Bali with each other, numerous times and in many different ways. This was since neither of us had any firm plans, and were just planning to wing it. So, this was the awkward part where you discover if ...

... kids on holiday. It made for a fun day at the temple where we were asked over and over again to have our picture taken with cute kids. Many more were too shy to ask or could be heard practicing "can take selfie?"

It was fun, but reminded me of my Asia travels in the mid 90's during the Bill Clinton administration. People would literally stand in line to touch this tall American guy who might have been the first white person they saw and ...

We went to Prambanan, a UNESCO site, and the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. It was built in the 10th century and features three large temples dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Surrounding those are three smaller temples dedicated to the animals who serve them. In total, there are 224 temples in ...

Despite the high cost of the train ticket the economy class seats were exceedingly uncomfortable. They also kept the lights on all night which meant that getting some sleep proved somewhat difficult. Arrived in Yogyakarta at 5:30am and thankfully the Tugu train station is right by the backpacker enclave of Sosrowijayan. Wandered around the little alleys (Gang 2 & Gang 1) looking for a cheap Losmen/guesthouse ...
