Hi All - getting ready for my big trip tomorrow (which is totally going to suck). Anyway, here's a brief overview of my itinerary.<br><br>Saturday afternoon - leave Louisville, long layover in Philly - arrive in Lisbon at 9 am local time. Lisbon is 5 hours ahead of Louisville.<br><br>Sunday - try and stay awake before I can check into my hotel by ...
Louisville, Kentucky, United States amylintA short walk from the hotel lead us to the Louisville Convention Center and my first Kentucky Starbucks. I made it a mocha since it doubled as my breakfast. I asked the barista if they carried city mugs and he replied with a slight southern tang, "Nope. Small market."<br><br>Right.<br><br>
Louisville, Kentucky, United States lauren.warnecke... built the hotel that stands today in 1972 and named it after Dr. Galt.<br><br>After a quick coffee stop this morning, we walked around the downtown and happened upon the Art Car Weekend, an awesome display of crazy painted cars with things glued on them that lasted a good four blocks. Among my personal favorites were the dental car, the Wizard of Oz car, and the penny ...
Louisville, Kentucky, United States lauren.warneckeWith two 8 hour days of work remaining before our trip I find it increasingly hard to focus and stay on task...there are still a couple of loose ends to tie up before leaving and I find myself obsessing about them while working. I've made most of my miscellaneous purchases. But I still have to put together our travel binder and figure out how to combine my clothes and personal items into one small carry-on piece of ...
Louisville, Kentucky, United States whoisjohngalt... be the next year the Blue Angels make an appearance. Another cool thing the pilots do in the air show is take the helicopters and weave them through the bridges and get close to the crowd (but not scary close!) and if it's hot and you are close enough to the river you can get a nice cooling spray from the river as the helicopter pass by.<br><br>Once 9:30 PM hits, the show begins. Like clockwork. The bridge seems to explode...but it's just the fire works. :D And it's not only the bridge ...
Louisville, Kentucky, United States breezyfresh... friend, Neesa, was right. As we approached the area of the New River Gorge, the clouds moved down the mountains and the rain started. The slight detour we were going to make to this national park was set aside and we just kept driving. It would be almost trite to say the "clouds blanketed the mountain" but, in fact, they did but it was a different sort of blanket. It was more than a fog and less than a thick blanket because through the clouds, the ...
Clarksville, Indiana, United States gabbeecOh the wonders of nature and nature-stream restoration projects I volunteer on. Bernheim offers an abundance of programs for schools and families that educate and allow you to help conserve some nature! <br><br>Also, this park has many, many hiking trails. Yay hiking! We all know how much I love that. :)<br>
Clermont, Kentucky, United States breezyfresh... a week. But if you go after 8PM be prepared to wait at least 10 minutes to get a table. It's totally worth it between the food, hookah, and atmosphere. <br><br>Wicks Pizza: Louisville's best pizza place. L-ville has a lot of pizzaria's. But wicks is the best. Nice big portions, with amazing ingredients. Plus, reasonably priced! I highly suggest it.<br>
Louisville, Kentucky, United States breezyfresh... every conceivable type of terrifying, stinging, flying insect that gathered in the black corners of the dilapidated hell-barn and wasted the day flying about amongst the oversized bundles of tobacco that had been strung from the ceiling to dry. Hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, these things we called wasp killers which, I kid you not, had stingers as long as your finger and as thick as a drinking straw. Mere bees weren't enough for this place, which may have been the single greatest ...
LaGrange, Kentucky, United States battlemonkey... vast expanses of untamed wood into yet another entry into that sad but seemingly unavoidable parade of America toward becoming one gigantic, sprawling strip mall populated, from one end of the country to the other, by the same generic assembly of shops. But decrying this advance, and the ever-receding character it paves over on a daily basis and relegates to the dustbin of fading memories, is a task often taken up by writers with considerably more talent (but not, it would seem ...
