Meeting the Queen

Today can be described as long, exciting, tiring and overall incredible. Our flight on British Airways was wonderful. I didn't know you could still enjoy a flight so much. In fact, I was so busy enjoying the in flight entertainment, meals and snacks that I didn't get much sleep. However, getting served "breakfast in bed" was an experience I thoroughly enjoyed and a great wake me up. It was still dark when we arrived and as we circled London waiting for an opening in the flight pattern we were...

London Calling

A friend of mine, Jim, accepted a 3 month temporary position in England. I told him I would be visiting and true to my promise I will be spending the weekend in London. Jim will be taking the train in from Manchester and meeting me later this evening. I, actually, flew out of DC on Thursday night. Since I worked a 12 hour shift until 7am, I slept for most of the day and frantically tried to pack in time to catch a 6 pm flight out of Dulles. Needless to say in my haste I forgot to take a print...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Sheraton Heathrow West Drayton

Pleasant stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff (especially the concierge) was friendly and helpful. The only drawback was that the location is far away from everything. You had to take the "Hotel Hoppa" back to the airport to get on the subway to go anywhere. Next time we will probably stay closer to the heart of the city. Or at least near a subway station! If you stay here, pay the extra 4 to 5 pounds for the "executive suite". We got one the last night we were there and it was definitely worth the extra money. Nicer linens, feather bed on the matress and a down comforter.

Great experience

Stayed at the hotel on 2 seperate occasions (one business and one leisure) recently prior to catching early flights from Heathrow. I found the hotel to be perfectly acceptable on both occasions.

The room was large and impeccably furnished and sported a spacious marble bathroom with an unusually large range of toiletries! Bathrobes were provided in addition to a well-stocked minibar and free tea/coffee making facilities. (Nice hot chocolate provided!)

On both occasions I ordered room service which was delivered on time and piping hot, and the portions are very generous indeed. The menu is limited, but no more so (and no more expensive) than other hotels of this calibre. (There is a McDonalds right outside if you prefer that sort of thing).

The staff were courteous and helpful, particularly during check-in, where they took personal interest in me, even chatting about my travel plans to see if they could offer any advice! Unusual, but a welcome change to the normal bland, impersonal efficiency of some hotels.

To be fair, I've not stayed at many Heathrow hotels for purposes of comparison, but nontheless would recommend this one as a safe choice.

Nice travel hotel

from stoutbrewer
I had to laugh at the petty reviews. For a hotel right next to the Airport it did a fine job. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We had three Pacific Rim groups staying with us and no problems. If your hungry it's late or you want cheap. Walk across the street to the McDonalds at the Petrol station. The rooms are very spacious for the UK with internet access and Heathrows flight schedule. The only down side are the other patrons slamming doors at all hours rushing to there flights. The price was good for London (65 pounds with tax and breakfast). I could have got it for ten less if I booked it online. My shoe box Thistle Queens Park I stayed at on another visit wanted 200. The Hoppa system sucks but what can you do? Walk??? It's not the Sheraton's fault.

Reasonable enough for an airport hotel

from JCW
A standard enough airport hotel, with a regular shuttle bus (three pounds each way) to Heathrow terminals 1, 2 and 3. A little away from the main strip of airport hotels, which helps, but still within a few minutes of the terminals. The Executive Rooms are very nicely decorated ? recently refurbished, and very comfortable. The concierge is particularly helpful. Food is bland and expensive.Would be hugely expensive at the rack rates - look out for internet discounts. Car parking is charged extra. One irritating factor ? the hotel originally had a swimming pool; they've now built over this and turned it into meeting rooms. How's that for service improvement?!

Friendly Staff

We just returned from a stay at this hotel. The hotel staff was very helpful and promptly answered all of our questions about the area. We were a little concerned when we found out how close it was to the airport, but the room and surrounding area was very quiet. Our room was clean and neat. Our only complaint was the parking charge. We paid 49 pounds to park for one week. The housekeeping services were more than adequate.

Great hotel for traffic wardens

from wardster
OK I know it s an airport hotel, and I know most people are just passing through on business or vacation  but jeez where were the smiles and service. I can only liken staying here to an overnight stay in your office. The actual room was fine, if a little jaded. The problem was in the public areas. I arrived at about 9pm, and found the staff couldn t work the desk and spoke only basic English, the café was shut, the bar was crowded with business men and smoky. I can take all this, but with the notable exception of a trainee barmaid called Catherine (I think - God bless her she got me a sandwich - even though it was nearly $10!!)  no one smiled. Not the staff nor the guests  a traffic wardens paradise.

Very uncomfortable

from A TripAdvisor Member
we stayed at the heathrow sheraton on 11/02/04 the night before we flew to new york, although the room was clean and tidy the bed was awfull, it had a big dip in the middle, the pillows were like concrete and didnt smell to healthy either.

Poor Room, Poor Food, Poor Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is the worst UK airport hotel I have ever stayed in. The reception staff could not even answer a simple query about our eligibility to gain air miles points from our stay. The room was unclean - we found a plastic bottle in the wardrobe and the bathroom towels were literally black with dirt. However, they were replaced with acceptable ones when we complained. The standard of food was extremely poor. The mushrooms at breakfast were cold and tough, and the fried eggs were just left standing in a pool of oil. One compensation was the view over the Heathrow runway from the breakfast room.

Overcharging at the Sheraton Heathrow

from A TripAdvisor Member
What incensed us was a 21 Pound Sterling charge for two pieces of toast and two cups of inferior coffee, a "continental" breakfast. Added to the 5.90 Pound Sterling charge for two cups of (again) inferior coffee in the lounge, we felt we were well and truly being gouged. The room was adequate, although the plumbing (taps and shower head) was nearly falling out of the wall. A good cleaning of the room would not have been amiss. In sum, because of the blatant overcharging on food, I will deliberately boycott all Sheraton Hotels in the future. I will also urge all friends to boycott the hotels also.

Stay at the Heathrow Edwardian

from A TripAdvisor Member
The first impression is the worst - Heathrow airport hotels no longer run their own shuttle buses. You have to get on something called the "Hotel Hoppa", which are dingy public transport type buses. To add insult to injury they make several stops and you have to pay three pounds per trip.

The hotel itself was a depressing 70's style concrete bunker, superficially renovated.

The room itself was reasonably large and comfortable. The temperature control didn't work. The shower's water output was more than miserly.

The room itself could have used a thorough cleaning.

Room service was quite quick, the food was OK but way too expensive - 12 pounds for microwave lasagne!

The Heathrow Edwardian is a much better place to stay.
