... best friends by the time we left... 7 Euro well spent!!

Fri 13 Nov
Drizzle greeted us this morning so we got on our wet weather gear and headed off for a walk along the coast to Portofino which was 5km away. The wind blew away any cobwebs we may have had but it blew the rain away so we were happy. The walk followed the coast where we looked into the deep blues ...
Santa Margherita Ligure, Italian Riviera, Italy darrenhough74... our seats there was a couple who was seated in them and it was funny because there was barely anyone on the train but we did not want to take the chance of sitting somewhere else and taking someone else's seat. Well this lady gave us an earful of how she thought it was ridiculous that they had to move considering there were about 50 other open seats in our cabin, but she's like if these are your seats you better take them. She went on for about 2 minutes while ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy konaduy... of the city and had the BEST focaccia bread ever! After we left the group we had lunch at a little place with outside cafe seats and it was terrific. Rachel had a spicy pizza, Il Diablo and I had a zucchini tart. Then we wandered back to the ship and now Rachel is at the gym and I am updating my blog! We are a lucky group here! Tonight is casual night thank goodness. More to come!
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy mamafeathersDestination 404

km197'196

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!

Borghetto di Borbera, Piedmont, Italy martinasfamily... Very steep hills and very deep valleys. This necessitates the use of many, many tunnels and bridges. Some as short as 300 meters and some as long as 13 miles. We know this for sure as the Italians name all their tunnels and bridges with the length of each clearly marked in meters too. I’ll bet there were over 100 tunnels in the 1600 miles we have gone thus far.

The highway is access controlled. You share it with all sorts of cars ...

Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy amanda_marmotte... at least we were outside and ready to see the city by the water. The moment I got off I remarked to Rob that was the ugliest ferry journey I had ever taken, the best defence Rob could come up with was that it was interesting to see. The scene that surrounded us was a airway runway and a wave break on one side, 3 meter high cement that prevented any glimpse of the sea or horizon and on the other rusty boat docks on the other with derelict building and abandoned cargo boxes. This ...
Genoa, Italy rob.jenn... will continually use and update this travel blog as she studies. Tara will go to Rome, where she will meet up with a Contiki for 2 weeks, then head home to California! What an adventure this trip has been for us both, there truly are no words to explain! Keep reading to see what Hilary is up to, and if Tara gets a chance on the Contiki tour, she will be sure to chime in every now and then... if you have not noticed, she loves to chime in! Take care and God Bless!
Cinque Terre, Italy hsnyder... arrived and decided a little tanning time was in order... how convenient we are at a seaside town ;) This trip has been quite different for me, as we are moving around a lot more than I usually do - but it's fun doing that too. We are seeing a lot, getting good at the train system, getting good at just showing up in a town and trying to find accommodation. Gotta say though, John is a life saver - his ability to pick up languages and not to ...
